SCHOOL NURSE - CHESHAM BUCKS

Our client are an Independent Co-Educational Prep School in Buckinghamshire and are seeking a School Nurse, term time only, to commence as soon as possible.

This role is to work Monday to Friday from 8am to 4pm.

With extremely high standards the successful candidate will have proven quality and expertise. Candidates must possess a nursing qualification and be on the current nursing register. Candidates will ideally have experience of working with children but will not necessarily have experience of working in a school.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

The provision of medical care to pupils and staff on a daily basis:

1.Treating pupils and staff as appropriate
2.Administering medication according to School policy
3.Performing necessary health checks to assist with diagnosis
4.Maintaining Medical Information on all pupils and where necessary ensuring individual Health Care Plans are in place.

MAINTAINING THE SICK BAY

1.Ensuring that sick bay is appropriately stocked and equipped
2.Ensuring safe storage, usage and disposal of medical supplies and drugs
3.Provision of first aid kits around the school and replacement of supplies
4.Ensuring that the sick bay maintains the necessary level of hygiene required

ADMINISTRATION

1.Timely maintenance of pupil files, medical records and sick bay attendance records
2.Coordinating immunisation programmes
3.Development of health care plans where appropriate
4.Maintaining records of daily visits to the sick bay
5.Ensuring all medical information is received prior to new pupils starting and that relevant information is disseminated accordingly

WIDER SCHOOL INVOLVEMENT

1.Regular meetings with SMT including the Designated Safeguarding Lead to provide advice on effective pastoral care and safeguarding concerns.
2.Arrange, provide and facility training for all members of staff.
3.Liaising with kitchen with regard to dietary requirements and eating issues.
4.As appropriate, raising awareness of medical and health issues to pupils, staff and parents.
5.Involvement in Health and Safety issues including the timely completion of accident reports and following School policy in the submission of RIDDOR reports.
6.Medical representation on the School Health and Safety Committee.
7.Liaising with the sports department


GENERAL

1.Providing cover for sports fixtures, games sessions and other events as required
2.To keep up to date on nursing practises and qualifications
3.To be responsible for your own continued professional development.
4.To have the ability to work independently without medical back up on site
5.Drafting all School medical policies for review by SMT and the Governors

SUPPORT FOR THE SCHOOL

1.Contribute to the promotion of positive relationships, ethos and behaviour within the classroom and the school as a whole.
2.Ensuring confidentiality regarding information on children.
3.Carrying out duties of a supervisory nature of pupils, both on and off site.
4.Attending weekly staff meetings and pre-term Inset training days.
5.Complying with school policies and procedures.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

1.Striving for personal and professional development through active involvement in the school's staff professional development and review scheme.
2.Attending all INSET days as requested by the Head or Deputy Head.
3.Keeping up to date with medical training and up to date medical practice.
4.Maintaining registration on the nursing register.
