Competitive salary - Term-time only

Our client is a leading independent co-educational preparatory school for boys and girls in Hertfordshire. The school has a family-friendly atmosphere in a traditional setting in 47 acres of countryside, combined with a modern and ambitious approach to teaching, and a renowned reputation for developing all pupils who excel in a variety of subjects and disciplines, with an impressive standard of pastoral care.

A vacancy has arisen for a permanent and interim School Matron for an immediate/ November start. A suitably experienced RN qualified candidate is therefore required to be responsible for the provision of the healthcare needs of the pupils and staff. This is a fantastic opportunity for an enthusiastic experienced and flexible individual to join their dedicated and friendly professional team Mon to Fri 8 - 5 pm. A competitive salary is on offer commensurate with this important term-time only role

Main Duties and Responsibilities
(In no particular order of importance)
1. Providing medical care for all pupils
a. To create an individual care plan for any child with a medical condition in school
b. To administer medicines in accordance with the NMC safe administration of medicines policy
c. To ensure good standards of documentation for all care provided or planned using the school's Management Information System
d. To provide a clear plan for a medical emergency, ensure emergency treatment and medicines are readily available at all times
e. To work within your scope of practice, code of conduct
f. To liaise with the Headmaster or appropriate member of staff regarding any concerns for a pupil's medical need, safety or wellbeing

2. Provide first aid and emergency care as required
a. To promote the health and safety of pupils, visitors and staff providing first aid and advice
b. To ensure staff are up to date with first aid training, provide and promote health education
c. To refer children on to medical and secondary services as needed
d. To ensure that first aid provisions are maintained and available for all to use


3. Supporting pastoral needs and providing health education in the school
a. To offer support and guidance to pupils, liaise with parents and staff
b. To promote well-being and resilience
c. To consider external referral for mental health or counselling services as needed
d. To co-ordinate audiology and vision screening for pupils
e. To liaise with SENCO in order to support any child with a specific learning need

4. Contribute to school life
a. To participate in the health and safety and outdoor learning committees
b. To ensure policies relating to the health and wellbeing of pupils are up to date, evidence based and reviewed regularly
c. To support Sports staff so that any pupil with a health need are to encouraged to participate to the best of their ability whenever possible
d. To provide advice and individual health care plans for any trips or residential visits
e. To provide statistical information for the YHS Health & Safety Committee - in particular, pupil accident and incident information
