This role is within the acute Paediatric Ward which specialises in Congenital Cardiac Surgery, Oncology, Spinal Surgery, Neurosurgery, General Surgery and ENT.

Job Description

The Sister/Charge Nurse Cardiac is accountable and responsible for the care delivery and nursing management of the unit, including the supervision of staff and students. In order to achieve this the senior sister/charge nurse will work in a supervisory capacity and be expected to lead and manage team performance thus enhancing the patient experience, improving patient outcomes and contributing to the organisational priorities of improved patient flow, reduction in sickness levels and safe and effective deployment of the nursing workforce. The Senior sister/charge nurse will act as an exemplar role model delivering high standards of care and compassion at all times. To communicate effectively at all levels within the multi-disciplinary team. The post holder'€™s primary post will be within the Paediatric Departments.

This is a full time position : 37.50 hours per week

Salary between £39174 and £45419 plus HCA Benefits

Duties & Responsibilities

  • The assessment, planning and delivery of high quality patient care as part of a multi disciplinary team, delegating tasks as appropriate
  • To have an understanding of staff management
  • To promote a learning environment
  • To communicate with patients and their families and the team on care decisions
  • To guide junior staff and take overall responsibility for the assessment of patients and delivery of care plans by utilisation of advanced skills
  • As shift leader monitors the care of a group of patients and takes the lead in emergency situations, and evaluation of post emergency care situations
  • To guide and support junior staff on dealing with complaints and clinical incidents
  • To contributes to and conducts performance reviews and monitors staff performance on a day to day basis

Skills & Experience

  • NMC registered RSCN/RCN
  • First line management course
  • Experience of working in Cardiac care (Critical care)
  • General experience across Paediatric environments
  • PILS/ Paediatric care course

About The Individual

The successful candidate will have significant cardiac experience and strong communication skills to liaise with consultants, RMOs, and family members and have the ability to lead junior members of the team. You will have the ability to deal with emergency situations and the ability to work independently.
