Break in to prison healthcare!

Looking for a change in your career?

Have you ever thought about working within a prison environment, helping to rehabilitate and support offenders to live decent and purposeful lives as a member of the community?

Are you looking for a challenging and rewarding role with career developments?

Then look no further...

HMP Hewell is a split site prison separated by approximately half a mile. The larger part is category B, holding up to 1,104 remand, sentenced and vulnerable prisoners and has the potential to hold category A prisoners as well. The smaller part (The Grange) is a category D open site holding up to 204 prisoners. There is an 18 bedded inpatient unit and a dispensing pharmacy on site (both on the Cat B site).

To ensure the continued quality of care at HMP Hewell, we’re looking for Substance Misuse Nurses to come and join our team.

About the role:

As a Substance Misuse Nurse you will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, whilst being a support and resource to less experienced members of staff. You must be able to carry out comprehensive assessments, initiate and review individual recovery plans and confidently communicate the full range of treatment options available to service users. You will work with individuals, on a 1-1 basis, providing advice and information. You will support in group work delivery and liaise with prescribers and Recovery Practitioners on clinical interventions. You will occasionally be required to support dispensing. You must have an understanding and commitment to recovery and a person centred approach. This is an exciting role to support and motivate individuals to take control of their lives and to make changes to overcome dependence on substances and move onto a life free of offending.

Further job information:

We have full time and part-time opportunities available on a rota basis across 7 days. Dependent on experience the salary for this role is up to £34,000 (pro-rata for part-time).

We also offer 25 days annual leave + 8 public holidays, Contributory pension scheme 2-5%. As well as CPD, Revalidation, free online and face to face training, regional/national opportunities, cycle to work scheme, childcare vouchers and online discounts.

Please note that offers of employment are subject to Care UK Terms & Conditions and receipt of satisfactory references, enhanced DBS check and prison vetting.

About us:

Care UK are the Health in Justice Market leader, providing healthcare services to over 22,000 offenders in over 30 prisons across the country. Our model of care is our Wellbeing Approach – an integrated, comprehensive approach in recognition of the fact prisoners are a socially-excluded group with healthcare needs which are complex and often associated with poor outcomes. It adopts the premise no single health/wellbeing factor can be taken in isolation of other motivational issues which might impact a person’s care.

You will be a qualified Registered Nurse (Adult / Mental Health) with a real passion for developing your clinical skills in an environment that is ever changing. You’ll have a flexible approach working within a team that encourage new ideas and opinions on how to improve the service. If you are self-motivated and able to work autonomously as well as showing plenty of initiative when it comes to handling a wide range of situations, then this could be the right role for you!
With proven experience of working with Substance Misusers and sound clinical substance misuse knowledge; you’ll have an awareness of health issues relating to substance misuse and ideally hold RCGP 1 in Substance Misuse / RCGP 2 in Substance Misuse – these are desirable but not essential.
