Our client was set up by a Founding Patron, whose vision of a centre of excellence for children with autism became reality with the opening of the school in 1999. They have since grown to support around 80 young people with autism aged between 5-25 years with the opening of Young Adult Provision in 2011.

Since opening, their support teams have grown from around 20 to 500 and we have built a reputation as a leading edge educational, vocational, and residential facility for young people with autism. Working with young people can be challenging but extremely rewarding.

They are looking for an experienced Senior Registered Nurse to work within an innovating environment with like-minded and friendly people. To work with and manage a small and enthusiastic nursing team, with responsibility for the smooth and efficient running of the department. To be integral role in taking the service forward whilst promoting excellent care. To have opportunity to work alongside the leadership team and other therapies, with onsite support from psychology, speech and language therapy, and occupational therapy, as well as build strong links with our specialist consultants.

You need to be confident in making clinical decisions and passionate about making a difference to the lives of young people severely affected by autism.

Responsibilities:

To lead, supervise and monitor the nursing team in providing consistent quality care; ensuring adherence to defined policies and procedures, using evidence based practice and clinical reasoning to inform decisions.

To lead, participate and support regular, defined audits of service provision to enable improved care outcomes and ensure a needs led service is maintained

To oversee and facilitate medicines administration and management training and monitoring

In conjunction with the Care Management Team, take responsibility for the medical care of the children and young adults; monitoring their health and wellbeing including general nursing duties.

To act as a role model for the nursing team and wider staff team in maintaining accurate, consistent, up to date documentation and communications regarding the young people's medical care.

Work closely with the therapy department and maintain a skilled nursing presence so as to facilitate a team approach for nursing interventions and multi-disciplinary team working.
To be responsible for the Medical Centre budget in liaison with the line manager

To liaise with the Leadership Team in supporting the development and implementation of a Service Level Agreement to provide Psychiatry services to the young people.

To build effective working relationships with external medical professionals specifically the school doctor, hospital based specialists, CAMHS etc.

To adhere to the Nursing and Midwifery Councils (NMC) code of conduct.
To maintain a continuous professional development programme; keeping abreast of relevant statutory legislation and requirements, research and development within autism and associated health needs.

Nursing Department


·To manage the nursing team , delegating responsibilities where appropriate to individual nurses:
·To provide a high standard of service to the children & young people within the professional competence and NMC guidelines
·To ensure that medical and healthcare policies and procedures are reviewed annually, and to be proactive in developing new ones
·To support the young people's medical appointments as and when required.
·To keep all nursing records up-to-date both paper documents and electronically and to keep parents informed of any changes or concerns relating to medical requirements
·To maintain medical stock supplies
·To monitor, record, collect and maintain accurate supplies of To be responsible for the ensuring medical equipment is fit for purpose and maintained in good order.

·To monitor and maintain relevant accident books and maintain supplies for First Aid kits
·To provide relevant training for staff to support complex needs of children and young adults.
·To promote, and adhere to the safe storage and management of medicines
·To complete medical audits and act on agreed outcomes from incident analysis in conjunction within the residential homes.
·Communicate with children & young people, family/carers, and the multi-disciplinary team, to facilitate continuity and consistency of effective care.
