Roald Dahl Children's Neurosurgery Nurse Specialist Oxford Children's Hospital

Roald Dahl specialist children's nurses provide support, information and practical care for seriously ill children, and support the whole family too. At Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust, we are very excited to be expanding our Paediatric Neurosurgery department.

In partnership with RoaId Dahl's Marvellous Children's Charity, we are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated and dynamic nurse who has a range of experience in looking after children to lead and grow this specialist area. If you have the relevant skills and experience and would welcome the opportunity to develop your own career and our service with support from RoaId Dahl's Marvellous Children's Charity, we would love to hear from you.

Primarily this post is based in the acute care setting, being a link between medical, nursing staff and the child and their family. You will offer skilled support and accurate information helping them to understand their condition, treatment and prognosis.

This role will provide support for children and young people (CYP) with a range of neurosurgical conditions (including space occupying lesions, hydrocephalus, head injuries, spina bifida, vascular malformations, Chiari malformations, and the consequences of infection, such as empyema and brain abscess). There is also a strong link with the spinal and cranio-facial service. Most of these conditions are rare and the support for these families is variable.

The successful applicant will be eligible to access the Roald Dahl Professional Development Package which will help them to develop their career and the service.

This is a permanent post with all activities dedicated to work with the Neurosurgery team. There will be dedicated nurse led clinics, assessments and also the opportunity for research and publications on a wide variety of conditions. All of the surgeons in the team have a track record of research in different conditions, and will support the audit and managerial side of this senior nursing role.

The post will be for 37.5 hours a week and the successful candidate will be required to work Monday to Friday, commencing with a ward round at 08.00 am.
