Keeping our homes in order

Good problem solver who is great at getting things fixed?
Understand how buildings operate, inside and out?
Capable all-rounder, able to teach others?

Then Barchester wants to hear from you.

At Barchester, our mission is to provide the best care possible to elderly and vulnerable people.
Part of that commitment is making sure our 200 care homes across the country are in perfect working order and in the best condition possible for both our residents and our staff. We're looking for a Head of Maintenance to help us create the welcoming, safe and comfortable environment our residents deserves.

From caring for our beautiful grounds and right down to making sure the taps all work, you'll have ultimate responsibility over everything practical in our care home. You'll need to be comfortable either leading a team or working alone to make sure our home conforms to health and safety standards and is a pleasant environment to live and work in. Reporting to the Care Home General Manager, you'll be responsible for making recommendations on the maintenance budget spend and liaising with contractors to tackle jobs outside your areas of expertise.

You'll need to be resilient, trustworthy and sensitive to the needs of our residents - their well-being is your ultimate priority. You should be prepared to give advice over the phone or come into work for out-of-hours emergencies. This job is not always predictable and often you'll be dealing with new challenges. Inevitably, sometimes things won't go according to plan, so you should be somebody who is not afraid to learn from their mistakes and takes accountability seriously.

In terms of requirements, you'll need hands-on experience in property maintenance - and the project management and record keeping skills that go with that. You must have GCSEs in Maths and English, as well as being IT literate. You should have a minimum of one trade skill, but preferably be capable of a little bit of everything, and you must have a full UK driving license.

If you have the unique qualities required for this role and want to work with an organisation that offers the standard of care you'd expect for your loved ones, we would welcome your application.

Company

Quality care is at the heart of everything we do. Along with great colleagues, our residents, patients and their families, that’s what makes working at Barchester so rewarding – and we’re proud to deliver the compassionate and person-centred care you’d expect for your loved ones.
