Break into prison healthcare!
Have you ever thought about working within the prison environment? Are you looking for a challenging and rewarding role with career development? Then look no further…
Situated in Portland, HMP The Verne is an adult offenders institution accepting males aged 21 and over. Care UK were recently awarded the Healthcare contract at HMP The Verne; we are the Health in Justice Market leader, providing healthcare services to offenders across the country. Our model of care is our Wellbeing Approach – an integrated, comprehensive approach in recognition of the fact prisoners are a socially-excluded group with healthcare needs which are complex and often associated with poor outcomes. It adopts the premise no single health/wellbeing factor can be taken in isolation of other motivational issues which might impact a person’s care. To ensure the continued quality of care at HMP The Verne, we’re looking for a Primary Care Nurse to join our team.
So what do we have to offer?
We recognise training and development is key, therefore we have an onsite training centre to facilitate for your needs. You will gain insight and training in Mental health and Substance Misuse. If you are new to nursing or offender health, we will create a suitable induction package to ensure you are equipped for this exciting role. We also offer company benefits and schemes including company contributory pension scheme, 25 days annual leave plus 8 public bank holidays, staff well-being, access to bank hours, CPD, re-validation, cycle to work scheme.
About you:
You will be a qualified Registered Nurse (Adult) with a real passion for developing your clinical skills in an environment that is ever changing. You’ll have a flexible approach working within a team that encourage new ideas and opinions on how to improve the service. If you are self-motivated and able to work autonomously as well as showing plenty of initiative when it comes to handling a wide range of situations, then this could be the right role for you!
Further job information:
This is a full-time role, working 37.5 hours per week on a rota basis across 7 days. The salary for this role is up to £29,000 per annum - depending on experience. Part-time applications are also welcome. Please note that this role is subject to Care UK Terms & Conditions and offers of employment are subject to satisfactory receipt of references, enhanced DBS check and prison vetting. Not sure if Prison Healthcare is the right environment for you? Why not come along to our Healthcare Open Day on 2nd May 2018 to speak to members of our healthcare team and find out more!
Nursing in prison is never dull or predictable. On any given day the skills you use may be similar to those you need working in health promotion or A&E, alternatively you may be supporting people to manage their mental health or substance misuse. It’s this variety that keeps things fresh and stimulating. Every day will bring new challenges and new experiences. But at the same time, you’ll have all the support you need to deliver the best care possible. The role will be an experience like no other, requiring a diverse and mixed nursing skills and background. One minute you could be delivering a nurse led clinic and the next you are attending an emergency response.
You can expect to be involved in everything from clinical triage, suturing, wound care and fracture clinics to the evaluation and development of patient care and standards. You’ll carry out – and potentially develop – nurse-led clinics, reviewing patient histories, undertaking relevant examinations and tests, organising any necessary treatment and referring patients to other healthcare professionals when you need to.
Company
You tell us how you want your career to look, and we’ll help you to make it happen.
Our nurses do a lot for our patients, so we do a lot for them. Right from the start you’ll be able to select working hours that fit around your other commitments, helping you to achieve a great work/life balance.
We also want you to get the most out of your work, so we have generous staffing levels that enable you to spend quality time with your patients (if you work in one of our treatment centres, you won’t be chasing beds). You’ll also get to work with the same close-knit and positive team every day in a great environment. We support you with your revalidation too.
