HCA Laboratories has over 35 years’ experience in providing pathology services, for acute care in our HCA Hospitals, IVF Clinics, Insurance work, healthcare screening and GP services.

We have a number of sites within central London, with the main locations at Wimpole Street and Shropshire House. We have further laboratories at The London Bridge Hospital, Leaders in Oncology Care, Harley Street and The Platinum Medical Centre with further planned development inside the London area.

We cover all disciplines in pathology including allergy, biochemistry and endocrinology, haematology and blood transfusion, histopathology and cytology, immunology, and microbiology and serology, with each laboratory equipped with the best available analytical instrumentation.

Job Description

  • This post requires working shifts to cover 8am to 9pm.
  • This is a full time, permanent position, with a starting salary of £19,934 - rising based upon experience.
  • Processing, separating serum/plasma samples for analysis, for referral sites and for storage
  • Also to assist Biomedical Scientists in performing the analytical functions of the Laboratory
  • Work independently and as part of a team
  • Answer telephone enquiries
  • Respond to Temperature Monitoring System (Tutela) alarms and record findings
  • Use of QPULSE and DATIX document management and incident reporting

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Attend mandatory HCA training 
  • Treat all users of the service in an efficient and courteous manner and to ensure that all enquiries that cannot be dealt with directly are passed on to an appropriate senior member of the Section.
  • Undertake such other duties as may be reasonably required from time to time as are consistent with the responsibilities of the post.
  • Assist  BMS’s in performing the analytical functions of the service
  • Stock control and unpacking deliveries
  • Analyser maintenance
  • Process blood/serum/plasma and other body fluid samples for analysis, prepare aliquots for referral sites and for storage
  • Complete maintenance and disinfection / cleaning routines
  • Loading and unloading Analysers
  • Set up defined diagnostic tests
  • Receive samples
  • Ensure correct samples are received for tests required and query any problems identified

Skills & Experience

  • Good Level of Education – A’ Level equivalent in science subject
  • Previous laboratory experience is desirable
  • Aware what job entails
  • Knowledge of computer systems is desirable
  • Develop an understanding health and safety principles and procedure for Laboratories.
  • Good communication skills and ability to comprehend and give clear statements that are understood by patients/staff.
  • Able to follow instructions and learn standard procedures.
