We have an exciting opportunity for a Modern Matron to lead our Day Surgery, Gynaecology & Pre-Assessment services based at The Wellington Hospital’s prestigious Platinum Medical Centre based in St Johns Wood, London (NW8 7JA). The Surgical Day Care unit has 12 beds and 6 reclining chairs and we cover a number of specialities such as ENT, Max fax & Ophthalmology. Our Gynaecology unit is a 10 bedded ward, situated on the 5th Floor in our South building.

Job Description

As a Modern Matron you will report into the Clinical Services Manager and will oversee the running of these 3 services/wards, providing nursing leadership and direction for all nursing staff, (4 direct reports and circa 20 staff in total). • Job Type: Permanent, full-time role (37.5 hours per week) • Hours: 7.5 hours per day (Monday - Friday). Core hours 8am – 4:30pm with occasional early starts/late finishes. • Salary: £48,000 - £55,594 per annum (depending on experiences) • Benefits: Structured career development, funded courses, health and wellbeing support system, private pension, private medical cover, and much more.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Provide nursing leadership and direction for all nursing staff across the allocated Day Surgery and Gynecology services, ensuring effective line management to Senior Sisters & Clinical Nurse Specialists. • Provide clinical leadership by acting as a positive role model, who practices evidence-based care, to ensure high standards of clinical care. • Lead in the planning and implementation of developments relating to the Pre-Assessment service. • Responsible for key performance indicators and programmes such as, enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) and Patient Reported Outcome Measures (PROMS) which provides an indication of the outcomes or quality of care delivered to patients. • Effectively managing the financial resources of the services to ensure the optimal deployment of the nursing workforce to meet clinical demands. • Work closely and build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders such as, Clinical Services Manager, Matron’s, Ward Managers, Clinical Nurse Specialist team, Outpatients Centre Manager, Consultants and Anaesthetists.

Skills & Experience

• Registered Nurse with extensive pre-assessment experience. Involvement in Surgery and ERAS would also be advantageous. • Previous experience at a Matron or Ward Manager level with excellent leadership skills. • Evidence of effective staff management with the ability to manage resources efficiently within budgetary constraints and for a constantly changing workload. • An enthusiastic, motivated nurse who is able to build effective relationships with staff and has excellent project management skills. • Excellent communication skills, with a strong collaborative approach and ability to engage the nursing workforce and multidisciplinary teams.
