Located in the heart of London’s esteemed medical district, the newly-refurbished Princess Grace Hospital offers a wide range of medical and surgical specialties. Supported by world-class doctors from leading London teaching hospitals, the hospital has 129 beds, including a purpose-built intensive care unit, catering for Level 3 patients. Our eight fully-equipped theatres include three laminar flow theatres for orthopaedic surgery, a hybrid theatre to enable complex vascular surgery, a robotic surgery suite along with some of the most advanced radiological diagnostic facilities in the country. 

Our ultra-modern ITU was opened in 2011 and contains 9 beds made up of 4 open bays and 5 single siderooms. We care for both level 2 and 3 patients and the typical case mix includes elective colorectal and HBP, complex urology, spinal surgery and will also accommodate unplanned and medical admissions. With the state of the art facilities available, we are able to provide comprehensive care such as organ support including respiratory, cardiovascular and renal therapies. Our team of specialist intensive care nurses provide up to 1:1 patient care and are supported by a multi-disciplinary team of healthcare professionals delivering some of the most complex and effective medical interventions. This is all provided within a professional and modern patient and work environment.

Job Description

As the Critical Care Manager you will be a highly visible leader, delivering the provision of clinical and professional leadership to the unit team, whilst being available to patients and consultants to promote confidence in our services. Maintaining a high profile and standards for clinical practice within the Critical Care Department, you will ensure the team have the skills to deliver the needs of the service in a safe, efficient and effective way. You will promote and enhance world class patient focused care by assessing areas of risk in relation to patient safety and implementing initiatives to improve patient experience.

This is a full time role working 37.5 hrs per week

Salary between £49,417 - £55,594, dependent upon skills and experience.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Acts as a clinical expert for Critical Care at the Princess Grace hospital.
  • Ensure effective admission and discharge planning with relevant members of the multidisciplinary team.
  • Participate in clinical audit and implement actions based on audit results to enable changes in practice.
  • Oversee all HR duties - recruit and select exceptional staff, retain quality staff, staff rosters, performance management, midyear reviews, training and education for staff, department orientation
  • Contributes to setting the department’s budget including staffing levels and skill mix
  • Maintains department costs in line with budget and worked hours explaining variances on the workforce planning tool.
  • Monitor department revenues using the daily revenue report sheets
  • Creatively manage flexible staffing patterns that meet changing patient service level/needs.
  • Complete monthly department financial reviews
  • Work with Deputy CNO and CNO to identify areas for improvement and develop actions plans in response to the monthly nursing audits, and other audits as they arise.
  • Identify  and participate in the development of nursing policies and procedures
  • Manage complaints  in line with HCA Policy and set timeframes  ensuring the investigation tool is completed and learning is identified for individual complaints
  • Promote a culture of continuous quality improvement through the use of patient satisfaction feedback and reflection on practice by self and other members of the unit team.
  • Manage the outreach service developing this service in line with national guidelines
  • Work collaboratively with the Hospital’s outsourced resuscitation advisory services and be a local lead for this.
  • Be response for ensuring the unit meets regulatory and nationally set guidance.

Skills & Experience

As a registered nurse with extensive experience within a critical care setting, you will also ideally have experience of renal services. You must hold a post grad qualification in ICU, as well as ALS. Having worked at a senior level, you will also have budgetary and resource management experience.
