It's now poised for transformation with the recent opening of a brand new international airport offering scheduled commercial air access. The 30-bed General Hospital in the capital, Jamestown, covers all areas of acute medical and surgical care.

In this role you follow the patient from the beginning to the end of their perioperative journey - from pre assessment to discharge. The successful candidate will carry out the overall day to day running of the theatre. This includes acting as the lead communicator between the surgical team, other professionals and ensuring the theatre suite is fully prepared to receive cases during and out of working hours.

As the lead communicator between the surgical team and staff, you will ensure that patients, theatre staff and environment are all fully prepared.
This role involves scrubbing, circulating and assisting the anaesthetist in a wide variety of specialties including General, Laparoscopic, Obstetrics & Gynaecology and Maxillofacial.
The hospital will also be setting up an Orthopaedic service so previous experience in Trauma and Orthopaedics is essential.

You will be responsible for the sterilisation of surgical instruments and equipment on - site so an understanding of these processes or a willingness to learn is essential. In achieving and maintaining best practice you will lead the development of policies and procedures for the theatre department.
You must be able to undertake emergency triage and offer clinical care in the ambulance using advanced resuscitation skills. If required you will take charge of wards and staff on shift during duty hours and take charge of hospital patient care in the absence of medical officers and other senior nursing staff.

A UK Registered Nurse with Degree Level 1 on the Live NMC Register, or with equivalent qualification and registration, you must hold a recognised qualification in Operating Theatre/Perioperative Practice and have substantial theatre experience in an Acute General Hospital within the last 10 years. Experience in General, Laparoscopic, Obstetrics & Gynaecology and Orthopaedics is essential and experience in pre-assessment for theatre and CSSD practices is desirable.
