Sarah Cannon Research Institute UK is a unique standalone trial facility that collaborates and works closely with clinical investigators to develop new and innovative cancer therapies for patients.

Sarah Cannon Research Institute UK is the first trials unit outside the NHS that has the ability to offer new anti-cancer drugs in clinical trials. As a dedicated trials unit we are focused on fast study set-up time lines to offer patients rapid access to new investigational drug therapies – importantly we are open for both private and NHS patients.

Job Description

The post holder will take responsibility for supervising the safe administration of standard of care and experimental systemic cancer therapies, and for monitoring the expected and unexpected side effects of drugs and other treatment modalities used in these trials. They will also ensure that all research undertaken within the department safeguards the well-being of the patients and is conducted according to Good Clinical Practice (GCP) in conjunction with the other members of the team.

Salary range £33,000 - £37,000 (dependent on experience) plus benefits

Monday - Friday (09:00 - 17:30)

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Carry out planned care required by the clinical trials protocol to patients without direct supervision
  • Responsible for the co-ordination of on trial care, and follow up of patients within study requirements
  • Assist in clinical trials including venepuncture and cannulation of patients when necessary ensuring that they are carried out within the HCA’s policies
  • Assist and advice staff, both registered and unregistered in the delivery of care to the patient
  • Ensure that written informed consent has been obtained for any treatment provided
  • Ensure the safe administration of trial drugs, have in-depth knowledge of the legal requirements of a clinical trial sponsor regarding pharmacovigilance and the Trust pharmacovigilance policy.

Skills & Experience

  • Current NMC registration
  • Registered Nurse with experience in an oncology setting
  • Oncology Trials experience (Benefit but not essential)
  • Chemotherapy Competent
  • Certificate in Oncology Nursing is preferable.
