The Role

Our School Nurse works with both the Health and Education directorates to provide a specialist nursing service to meet the health needs of children and young people in the Falkland Islands and provide a link between education, health and the family to benefit the wellbeing of school age children and young people up to 19 years old.

The School Nurse is responsible for supporting the mental health needs of school age children in the Falkland Islands, managing a small caseload and working alongside Community Mental Health and Clinical Psychology Service to provide the CAMHS service.

The School Nurse will also work alongside teaching staff and other healthcare professionals to ensure public health is addressed in the education curriculum, enabling young people to make informed choices about their health and administering the childhood immunisation programme for school-age children.

The Person

We are looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated and resilient specialist community health nurse, with a minimum of three years post-registration experience and experience in child and adolescent mental health.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate safeguarding and management of those with complex needs, working alongside the multi-disciplinary team and families to support the health of children and young people.

Core Requirements

  • Minimum 3 Years post-graduate experience in School Nursing / Specialist Community Public Health Nursing / CAMHS or equivalent.
  • Registered Nurse (RN) / Registered Mental Nurse (RMN) Status from the UK or equivalent.
  • Experience of working with children or young people with mental health problems or other complex needs.
  • Fluent English Speaker, with excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to manage own caseload and respond to changing needs of the patient.
  • Able to work unsocial hours to provide crisis intervention or support the needs of the caseload.

The Package

  • Initial 2-4 Years Fixed Term Contract, with potential for extension by mutual agreement.
  • Salary Range: £30-39k, starting salaries will be dependent upon experience .
  • 25% Gratuity paid upon successful completion of the contract.
  • 30 Days Annual Leave, plus government and public holidays (totalling 41 days leave)
  • Relocation Allowance, to help with moving costs.
  • Flights package for you and your dependents, including mid-term return flight home.
  • Government Housing for rent at a subsidised rate and a starter pack to help you get settled in.

Health & Social Services

Based out of King Edward VII Memorial Hospital in Stanley, the Health and Social Services directorate provides primary, community and secondary healthcare in the Falkland Islands, as well as social services and welfare provision for those most in need.
