The Harley Street Clinic Children’s Hospital is now expanding the paediatric services it offers to our patients, with the introduction of a new dedicated four bedded Paediatric Bone Marrow Transplant unit (PBMT). This exciting new unit will treat a variety of malignant and non-malignant haematology conditions in children and young people requiring blood and marrow transplantation, as well as providing autologous transplantation for specific oncology disorders.

This is an exceptional opportunity to work closely with world-leading paediatric haematology consultants, whilst receiving ongoing support from our in-house training and development team, allowing you to provide a seamless world-class service to children and their families.

The unit will be supported by HCA’s Sarah Cannon Research Institute and will also be working towards obtaining JACIE accreditation.

Job Description

As Junior Sister you will provide clinical leadership to the team and ensure the provision of high quality nursing care to children and their families, acting as a role model for staff members as an expert clinical practitioner in bone marrow transplant. As a senior member of the team, you will also be in-charge of night shifts.

This is a full time position: 37.50 hours per week on rotation (Although we will consider flexible working requests)

The attractive and competitive salary for this role is £35,673 - £40,401 plus a 9% shift enhancement and will be dependent upon skills and experience.

We also offer a Golden Handshake for this role, where you can receive an additional £15,000 over a period of 2 years.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Ensure the provision of excellent, evidence based nursing care for the children and their families, ensuring each child is assessed and that their care is planned, implemented and evaluated
  • Promote Family Centred Care and ensure the provision of a welcoming, caring and safe environment for the children and their families; communicating complex information
  • Provide clinical expertise within the field of paediatric bone marrow and haematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT)
  • Awareness of and competence in the management of haematological emergencies
  • Competent in the administration of medication, systemic anti-cancer therapy and HSC and/or bone marrow infusions
  • Competent in the care and maintenance of central venous access devices
  • Actively manage the department on a daily basis, ensuring skill mix appropriate and planning ahead.
  • Assist in the development and review of policies and standards for the safe use of equipment and any new equipment introduced to the department.
  • Participate in events or publications that promote The Harley Street Clinic and Children’s Hospital and children’s nursing.

Skills & Experience

As a child registered nurse, you will have extensive experience of working within an acute transplant unit and chemo competent. As you will be in-charge on shifts, it is also important you have a mentoring qualification and experience of leading a department.

About The Individual

You should be a child registered nurse with previous exposure to a Senior Staff Nurse position within a transplant/BMT service. Specific experience in allogenic and autologous transplants is important, and you’ll be on the cancer pathway in terms of haematology. We’ll also want to see the drive and passion it takes to help establish a new unit – you’ll be excited about the opportunities that brings and the scope for impact you can have as part of a close-knit team of experts.
