In the paediatric department we have 24/7 cover by Clinical Fellows, a Clinical Educator and multi skilled Nurses rotating through paediatric departments. We provide in-house training days and teaching sessions, have Link Nurse roles, monthly MDTs and close links with 3 Universities.

What you'll be doing

Working as part of the multi disciplinary team delivering a high standard of holistic family centred care to children and their families.  Providing the highest standard of nursing care through ongoing assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of safe and effective care.    

You will join the Starfish Ward, a 15 bedded ward seeing  a wide variety of both inpatient and day case patients ranging from medical admissions, neurophysiology testing and a wide variety of surgical admissions. You will gain experience caring for children across a wide range of specialities whilst here with the support of an extensive MDT team including paediatric therapists and health play specialists.


We will look to you to provide support to our junior members of the team and also deputise for our Sister, leading the ward in their absence. As a senior member of the team, we will look to you to uphold our values and to ensure our patients receive the best care possible.

What’s a typical day?

  • Work in accordance with NMC guidelines
  • Prioritising patient care needs
  • Possess effective time management skills to ensure patients needs are met
  • Effective communication within the Multi Disciplinary Team
  • Engaging in and promoting multi-disciplinary teamwork alongside: Specialist Doctors, nurses, interpreters and therapists
  • Understand the principles of delivering prescribed treatment safely to achieve positive patient outcomes
  • Participating in Research/Evidence based practice groups to enhance and maintain the delivery of care
  • Competency displayed at the bedside, patient assessment, clinical skills and documentation
  • Act at all times as the patient advocate
