Break into prison healthcare!

Have you ever thought about working within the prison environment? Are you looking for an opportunity to gain experience in a challenging and rewarding role? Then look no further… HMP YOI Exeter is an adult/young offenders institution accepting males ages 18 and over; with an operational capacity of 550+. It accepts all adult and young offenders committed to prison by the courts from Cornwall, Devon, Dorset & West Somerset. Care UK recently took over management of the healthcare contract at HMP Lindholme; we are the Health in Justice Market leader, providing healthcare services to offenders across the country. Our model of care is our Wellbeing Approach – an integrated, comprehensive approach in recognition of the fact prisoners are a socially-excluded group with healthcare needs which are complex and often associated with poor outcomes. It adopts the premise no single health/wellbeing factor can be taken in isolation of other motivational issues which might impact a person’s care. To ensure the continued quality of care at HMP Exeter, we’re looking for Mental Health Nurses to join our team.

About the job

Nursing in prison is never dull or predictable. On any given day the skills you use may be similar to those you need working in health promotion or A&E and primarily be supporting people to manage their mental health or substance misuse. It’s this variety that keeps things fresh and stimulating. Every day will bring new challenges and new experiences. But at the same time, you’ll have all the support you need to deliver the best care possible. The role will be an experience like no other, requiring a diverse and mixed nursing skills and background. One minute you could be delivering a nurse led clinic and the next you are attending an emergency response.

The Job Requirements

You will be a qualified RMN with a real passion for developing your clinical skills in an environment that is ever changing. You’ll have a flexible approach working within a team that encourage new ideas and opinions on how to improve the service. If you are self-motivated and able to work autonomously as well as showing plenty of initiative when it comes to handling a wide range of situations, then this could be the right role for you!

The hourly rate is up to £16.50 per hour - dependent on experience. Care UK benefits include training & development opportunities, 2-5% company contributory pension scheme, 25 days annual leave plus 8 public bank holidays, staff well-being, access to bank hours, CPD, re-validation, cycle to work scheme, on-site gym facilities and free onsite parking at some locations.

Company

At Care UK, we treat everyone as individuals so they can live fulfilling, rewarding and happy lives and we recognise that taking the first step on the journey into care can be daunting.

We are proud to be the most awarded care home provider for the last three years, and we have more outstanding rated homes than any other provider. Independence is not about where you live, but how you live, so if you’re considering care for yourself or a loved one,  discover why we’ve been trusted to care for over 40 years.
