Location: St Helena, South Atlantic Tropical Island.
Salary: £35000-£40000 per annum (tax free International Supplement will also apply).
Description: This hospital is based on a sub-tropical island of spectacular and beautiful landscapes in the South Atlantic with a warm and friendly population of 4,500. St Helena is a self-governing overseas territory of the UK. It’s now poised for transformation with the recent opening of a brand new international airport offering scheduled commercial air access. The 28-bed General Hospital in the capital, covers all areas of acute medical and surgical care.
Mental Health services on the island are managed by a Team Lead and CPN’s in collaboration with GPs with 24/7/365 distance support from a Consultant Psychiatrist based in South Africa and from a clinical psychologist when required.
You will manage patients in the community, residential care and during hospital admissions, liaising regularly with the medical officer and communicating with relatives and significant others.
Providing enhanced nursing practice such as CBT, you will run anxiety management and depression courses, supervise learners and other care providers and train and mentor staff in clinical areas and classrooms.
Your participation in the development and implementation of a mental health promotion and prevention programme will include public talks, suicide prevention and self-help groups. You will also offer a mental health consultation and assessment service to other sectors and advise on child protection issues, providing evidence including forensics, in court.
This is a two year fixed term contract!
Person Specification: First level registered nurse (RMN/RNMH) with substantial post-registration experience, including community psychiatric care and a CBT background.
