HCA Healthcare UK has developed a dedicated private centre in partnership with The Christie NHS Foundation Trust in Manchester. The Christie Private Care treats private patients with a full range of diagnostic, inpatient, surgical, day care and outpatient treatment all on one site.

The Christie is an impressive and well-respected NHS Trust which is a European cancer centre providing advanced cancer care and housing the world's largest early clinical trials unit. The Christie Private Care builds on these services and provides state-of-the-art private patient facilities which include; 28 bedded inpatient Oncology wards, 6 bed Haematology and Transplant unit, Day Case Chemotherapy Unit, Outpatient Department, Specialised Radiotherapy Unit & Psychology services

Job Description

You will be responsible for managing and supporting a caseload of patients with a diagnosis of Breast Cancer. This will include collaboration and liaison with Consultant medical staff, ward/departmental staff, Community teams and other CNSs within The Christie hospital Foundation Trust, to provide seamless evidence based holistic pathway of care for all patients referred into the service. You will work alongside the lead Breast Clinical Nurse Specialist and the wider CNS team but work autonomously as a Breast Clinical Nurse Specialist at The Christie Private Care. 

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provides a level of advanced and comprehensive holistic nursing assessment based on specialist knowledge and experience and where appropriate maintain a client caseload.
  • Lead and support with specialist nursing knowledge the development and implementation of evidence based programmes of nursing care for individual patients and the client group as a whole.
  • Ensures all specialist practice complies with every aspect of Clinical Governance.
  • Provide expert clinical advice to the healthcare team taking into account all aspects of Clinical Governance. Promote and develop the use of evidence based practice to improve the outcomes of patient care by enabling people to access, identify, appraise and interpret information to meet their needs.
  • Support individual Consultants within clinics and ward areas as appropriate. Establishing a robust and workable job plan in conjunction with lead nurse.
  • Provide support, advice and education for patients, significant others and colleagues across the healthcare team and across service boundaries. Promotes patient and public experience feedback through HCA initiatives to drive innovation and change.
  • Ensure that people affected by cancer are aware that they are interacting with a Macmillan CNS team and have access to all the resources and services available through Macmillan

Skills & Experience

  • Registered Nurse with extensive Oncology experience.
  • Experience at a CNS, Sister/Charge Nurse or Senior Nurse level with extensive relevant post registration experience.
  • Oncology/Cancer/Palliative care qualification.
  • Recognised teaching qualification or evidence of Masters level learning would be advantageous.
  • Confident decision maker, with a focus on improvement and development.
  • Excellent communication and problem solving skills as well as a high level of clinical, technical and research skills.
