General Surgery at the Princess Grace Hospital involves a wide range of different surgical procedures performed by leading surgeons in their field of high acuity treatments. General Surgery focuses primarily on abdominal organs (e.g. intestines, oesophagus, stomach, small bowel, colon, liver, pancreas, gallbladder and bile ducts

 We are currently recruiting for a Clinical Nurse Specialist Upper GI

Job Description

The Clinical Nurse Specialist (Oesophageal and Gastric) will be part of the consultant led multidisciplinary team within the hospital responsible for the overall care of Upper GI patients. He/she will demonstrate a caring competent manner to instill patient confidence and contribute to an environment that is centred on the needs of patients and their families. They will demonstrate an ability to interpret and promote evidence based practice within the field of Upper Gastrointestinal care, as this is an area of nursing which is rapidly changing.

Hours: 37.5 hours per week (Mon-Fri)

The Salary for this role is in the range of £40,000-£50,000 and will be dependent upon skills and experience.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Consultants and members of the multidisciplinary team to implement and evaluate clinical care of Oesophageal and Gastric patients, providing expert clinical advice, utilising evidence based practice and benchmarked standards to improve quality and delivery of patient care
  • Ensure practice is evidence based and within hospital policy, guidelines and protocols and participate in their development
  • To follow cancer patients through the treatment pathway working closely with other CNS
  • Provide a specialist nursing service for patients with a malignant disseat requiring oncology intervention and support and treatment through the continuum of care
  • Facilitate the development of individual staff and nursing teams through the use of specialist education and training
  • Communicate with patients, family and/or carer as appropriate, to assess patient’s needs and provide relevant support, information, education, advice and counselling as required
  • Identify and promote specific symptom management strategies as well as the identification of triggers which may cause exacerbation of symptoms. Provide patients with appropriate self-management strategies and escalation pathways

Skills & Experience

  • Registered Nurse Level 1
  • Valid NMC Registration and PREP requirements
  • ENB 998 or equivalent
  • Relevant experience and Recognised qualification in specialty of Upper GI/Oncology
  • Working towards MSC qualification
  • Relevant and current experience in specialist area
  • Advanced Nurse Practitioner (Desirable)
