Job Description

This post is based at a Corporate client in Central London. The Occupational Health Advisor will work collaboratively with members of the HCA-Occupational Health Team to promote and maintain the health and wellbeing of HCA employees via the delivery of a comprehensive occupational health service. The post holder and will be responsible for providing pre-placement medical reviews, staff vaccination programme, sharps injury advice and case management. On a day to day basis they will work closely with the Senior Occupational Health Advisor (SOHA) and Practice Nurse OHPN). The OHA will be a key point of contact for day to day OH issues for the allocated Facilities; dealing with, resolving and/or escalating as appropriate to the Occupational Health Manager (OHM). Day to day support and mentoring will be provided by the SOHA.

Duties & Responsibilities

Clinical: • Support in the assessment of Pre-placement Health Questionnaires for all HCA (UK) & Roodlane employees and escalation to SOHA or OHM of significant identified health problems. • Undertake clinical nursing procedures without supervision, including: immunisations, phlebotomy, vision screening, in accordance with Roodlane +/or HCA Policies and Roodlane PGDs/PSDs. • The management of work related injuries/ill-health referrals • Responsibility for the advice and follow up of any Sharp’s/blood splash injuries that occur at HCA Facilities in the South and to provide information to the SOHA to support quarterly reporting. • Delivery of Health monitoring /Surveillance programs for employees in areas which may be hazardous to health or a potential health risk, e.g. Night Workers; Respiratory function; Skins; audiometry & hearing conservation; Food handling; EPP requirements. This would include maintaining of appropriate registers. • To assist with the management of infection control issues, including contact tracing and screening of exposed staff in accordance with Roodlane +/HCA Policy. • Advise on risk based assessments to develop safe working practices and the prevention of work- related ill health • Participate with and advise on positive attendance management strategies and activities including sickness absence and rehabilitation. • Support the SOHNA in triage of occupational health referrals • Telephone and onsite Case Management and sickness absence reviews • Carry out health assessments in relation to the work environment and provide advice to the client, employer on adjustments required to the workplace role. • In conjunction with HR and Line Managers facilitate the safe rehabilitation and resettlemet of employees reurning from long tem sickness absence.Advise the client employer, regarding issues relating to the Equality Act and H&S legislation. • Provide timely access to psychological support services, using EAP, PMI or outside agencies as appropriate • Escalation of cases to SOHA in a timely manner. • Workstation ergonomic assessment to be carried out in accordance with HCA DSE policy and protocols. • Effective communication with key internal stakeholders; such as report writing, presentations and case conference participation. • To advise Human Resources, Line managers and/or Health and Safety in relation to any health related issues in the work environment. • Provide guidance and support to Line Managers following Pregnancy Risk Assessments • To assist in the investigation of accidents and clinical incidents and undertake risk assessment as appropriate • Co-ordinate and / or deliver health promotion activities and advice where appropriate • To participate in the annual flu-vaccination programme as required. • To perform any other reasonable duties as instructed in order to provide a comprehensive occupational health service.

Skills & Experience

• Registered General Nurse (NMC Registered) • Minimum of 5 years post registration experience • Registered Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (OH) preferred • 1-2 years Occupational Health experience, either in the public or private sector (experience within the healthcare sector is advantageous). • Good knowledge of best practice and legislation within the disciplines of OH, employment law and H&S. • Evidence of immunisation and anaphylaxis training and updates. • Experience with complex case management advantageous. • Accuracy and attention to detail essential • Ability to work under pressure • Ability to use own initiative • Ability to prioritise work • Use and maintenance of computerized OH case management systems • Ability to communicate clearly, concisely and accurately in writing, especially in regards to providing OH reports. • Excellent oral communication and listening skills
