The Christie is an impressive and well-respected NHS Trust which is a European cancer centre providing advanced cancer care and housing the world's largest early clinical trials unit. The Christie Private Care builds on these services and provides state-of-the-art private patient facilities which include; 28 bedded inpatient Oncology wards, 6 bed Haematology and Transplant unit, Day Case Chemotherapy Unit, Outpatient Department, Specialised Radiotherapy Unit & Psychology services

Job Description

You will be a caring, compassionate and committed experienced nurse who, acting within their professional boundaries, will be accountable for providing care for the Oncology patient from initial history taking and clinical assessment through to treatment and evaluation of care. As an autonomous critical thinker, they will demonstrate safe, competent clinical decision-making and expert care, including assessment and diagnostic skills. They will communicate and work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to meet the needs of patients, supporting the delivery of policy and procedures, and providing nurse leadership as required.

Clinical 

  1. Using highly developed advanced nursing knowledge and skills to holistically assess, support  the diagnosis plan, implement and evaluate treatment/interventions and care for patients presenting with a cancer diagnosis;
  •  Utilising expert decision making and problem solving skills to assess, support the diagnosis, risk assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions/treatments for patients with complex needs
  • In collaboration with the lead Doctor use advanced critical-thinking to analyse and interpret history, presenting symptoms, physical findings and diagnostic information to develop the appropriate differential diagnoses
  • Order necessary investigations as required

2. In collaboration with the Consultant, prescribe and review medication for therapeutic effectiveness, appropriate to patient needs and in accordance with evidence-based practice and national and practice protocols, and within scope of practice;

  • Ensuring the integration of both drug- and non-drug-based treatment methods into a management plan
  • Working with patients in order to support compliance with and adherence to prescribed treatments
  • Providing information and advice on prescribed or over-the-counter medication on medication regimens, side-effects and interactions

3. Support patients to adopt health promotion strategies that promote healthy lifestyles with an emphasis on health education and preventative measures; supporting patients to apply the principles of self-care and supporting patients in helping to manage and live with illness

Skills & Experience

  • Registered Nursing Degree
  • Registered clinical MSc  - RCN Accredited Advanced Nursing Practitioner
  • NMC accredited Nurse Independent Prescriber
  • Mentor/teaching qualification
  • Clinical supervision training and experience
  • Advanced clinical practice skills in the management of patients with complex needs
  • Clinical examination skills
  • Advanced Life Support provider
  • Cancer qualification (desirable)
