Clinical Service Manager – Theatres (Theatre Manager) Opportunity

The BMI Huddersfield Hospital

Birkby Hall Road, Huddersfield, West Yorkshire

The theatre department at BMI Huddersfield Hospital is undergoing a major reconfiguration as part of a bigger Hospital development program. We are looking for an exceptional Theatre Manager to join the management and dedicated theatre team to lead this transformation. The hospital has 2 very busy theatre suites performing a wide range of routine and complex surgical procedures with specialties including orthopaedics, plastics, ENT, urology, laparoscopy, endoscopy and general surgery. The hospital recently appointed a new Executive Director and Director of Clinical Services and there are exciting times ahead at Huddersfield as the hospital continues to move forward under new management

We are looking for a candidate who is dynamic and forward thinking, with a focus on providing structure and leadership to the theatre team whilst growing and developing services. The ideal candidate will have previous experience in managing a busy theatre complex, with a focus on staff skills and utilisation, clinical governance, safer surgery development and the effective use of theatre resources.

We actively encourage potential applicants to come to site for an informal visit first – and feel this is the best way to truly get a feeling of what makes this unit and team so unique.

As well as having a strong local reputation, BMI Huddersfield Hospital is part of BMI Healthcare, Britain's leading provider of independent healthcare with a nationwide network of hospitals & clinics performing more complex surgery than any other private healthcare provider in the country.

Upon joining BMI Huddersfield you will receive a competitive benefits package including private healthcare, staff pension and 25 days annual holiday + bank holidays.  In addition you will also have access to some of the best training and development programmes in the healthcare sector courtesy of our dedicated in-house Learning and Development team.

The position will be offered on a full-time permanent basis covering 37.5 hours per week.

Applicants will therefore need to meet the following criteria:

  • Registered Practitioner with NMC or HPC registration
  • Appropriate degree level qualification
  • Trained as a surgical first assistant (Highly desirable)
  • Proven ability to lead, motivate, support, and develop a operating theatre department
  • Evidence of success in working in partnership with Consultants to explore and challenge existing practices while maintaining and enhancing theatre services and standards
  • Financial awareness – ability to balance the provision of quality care while maintaining a business focus
  • Knowledge of appropriate standards and external bodies, such as the Care Quality Commission
  • Previous experience as a Senior Registered Practitioner or equivalent with a solid track record of career progression in theatres
