Job Details

Location - South Bristol Community Hospital

We are looking for individuals who are compassionate, flexible, motivated, and positive who enjoy working as part of a large multi-disciplinary team.

A B5 is supported to become a confident and competent Registered Nurse as many of our services are predominately Nurse Led. Medical staff are based on site during the day and you will have an opportunity to develop effective skills in clinical assessment, decision making and communication.

You will need to have a keen interest in working with people with complex care needs, working with older people, and participating in complex care planning for the ongoing needs of the individual. You will be expected to routinely undertake all elements of essential care needs including: managing personal care, managing continence, moving and handling of patients, management of vital observations, diabetes management, falls prevention, pressure ulcer prevention, VTE management, maintaining nutrition and fluid intake. Essential clinical skills that you can develop include venepuncture, ECGs, catheterisation, catheter care, wound care, bladder scanning, and IV medication management.

We offer regular teaching sessions and benefit from having a high number of mentors (including sign off mentors) within the hospital.

You will be responsible for directing and supporting the un-registered staff and student nurses as part of your role. We recognise the importance of supporting our staff and you will benefit from the level of senior staff support available to you and we actively encourage staff development.

South Bristol Community Hospital

There are many reasons why our staff enjoy working at South Bristol Community Hospital. Many of our staff live locally in South Bristol or North Somerset and prefer not having to commute to the busy city centre.

Facilities available to staff include: an on-site carpark (pro-rata tariff applies); street parking within nearby local residential areas; local cycle routes; bus services available directly outside hospital entrance; excellent staff facilities including secure bike storage facilities; on-site café; large modern sports centre adjacent to the hospital; modern purpose-built building; and a collaborative team working approach.

We have recently benefited from the new South Bristol Link road which opened in January 2017, and in the future, we will also benefit from the new Metro link.

We are often praised by visiting clinicians, patients and visitors for the friendly and warm nature of the staff here and for the pleasant experience of coming to SBCH.

SBCH Inpatient wards:

Our adult inpatient wards benefit from the modern and purpose-built design, offering 50% single rooms and beautiful views overlooking the adjacent fields.

Ward 100 (located on the first floor) specialises in both stroke rehabilitation and general rehabilitation.

The aim of any rehabilitation programme is to enable an individual who has an acute illness or injury to reach the highest possible level of independence and be as productive as possible.

Ward 200 (located on the second floor) specialises in treatment and support for individuals who have seen a reduction in their ability to function through illness or injury. In particular they look after orthopaedic patients and patients who may suffer from a movement disorder.

Company

At UH Bristol we understand Nursing isn’t just a job – it’s a way of life. We give it our all, day after day, to provide our patients with the excellent standard of care they deserve. In return, we will give you the support, the development opportunities, and work-life balance, to help ensure you live your life as a Nurse to the full.

If you have first class Nursing skills, there aren’t many better places to use them than here in Bristol. We have invested in our hospital buildings; creating an environment that’s great to work in, and even better to be treated in. Our Nurses have the support of our Supervisory Ward Sisters, as well as great opportunities for rotation and development, while they benefit from a culture that respects and acts on their views.

We are extremely proud of our position as a major teaching and research hospital with strong links to the University of Bristol and the University of the West of England, and with our excellent CQC (Care Quality Commission) assessment in March 2017, this makes University Hospitals Bristol one of only six large acute hospital Trusts in England to be rated ‘Outstanding’. A superb recognition of what makes our Trust so special – the respectful, caring and human approach we take to treat others as we would want to be treated ourselves.
