The Princess Grace Hospital has 127 registered beds, including 90 inpatient, 21 day case, 8 endoscopy, an urgent care unit and a Level 3 intensive care unit containing 9 beds, with 24-hour consultant cover and a high dependency unit. The hospital also has a several specialised centres, including; The London Breast Institute, recognised as one of the best private breast screening and diagnostic treatment centres in the UK; the London Digestive Centre, a highly specialised outpatient facility offering diagnoses and treatments for all conditions of the stomach, small and large intestines, liver, pancreas, and bile ducts; and The Institute of Sport Exercise and Health, a state-of-the-art facility dedicated to sport and exercise medicine.

Job Description

The Head of Governance and Risk is the expert advisor on clinical governance and risk management, ensuring compliance with legislative requirements, national and local policy.

This is a full time permanent role working 37.5 hours per week

Duties & Responsibilities

  • To support the regional facilities, clinical and non-clinical leads and Clinical Directors in the delivery of clinical governance and risk management priorities across the region.
  • To represent the region within HCA’s corporate quality, governance and safety structures and to ensure that the HCA governance, risk and quality strategy is embedded in all facilities within the region.
  • To represent the region in local, corporate, partnership and national governance and risk forums to ensure that changes in legislation, quality, safety and risk initiatives are delivered and embedded within the regional facilities.
  • To provide direction for the region to ensure a patient focused and evidence based clinical governance agenda is defined and reported to governance committees. To co-ordinate the production of an annual report and Governance Report to the Senior Management Team,
  • To ensure that quality and risk management is embedded throughout the facilities by providing support, advice and guidance on all aspects, establishing audit processes to monitor the effectiveness of quality and risk systems.
  • To work with HCA corporate Audit Committee and facility leads in coordinating and supporting the delivery of the clinical audit programme.
  • To act as the regional lead for ensuring all services are legally registered within the statutory and regulatory frameworks and are meeting the CQC standards and outcomes and all future regulatory assessment/investigation approaches.
  • Providing expert advice and support to the Senior Management Team and Exec Team on matters relating to such areas as risk and incident management, regulatory compliance, complaints resolution and health and safety.
  • To ensure that processes to seek out patient satisfaction are fully embedded within all facilities and results are fully utilized to improve services through continual audit and monitoring.

Skills & Experience

  • Degree /Professional Qualification
  • Postgraduate qualification/Masters or equivalent in-depth training and/or significant experience in risk, governance or compliance
  • Continuing professional development in areas such as; root cause analysis, legislation , risk management, clinical governance
  • Proven ability to analyze complex problems/ information from a variety of sources and to develop and successfully implement practical and workable solutions to address them;
  • Experience of managing and updating large, complex databases.
  • Ability to think and plan strategically, tactically and creatively, and to prioritize work programs in the face of competing demands;
  • Ability to communicate highly complex information to internal and external stakeholders and experience of making presentations to internal and external groups on a regular basis
  • Ability to collaborate constructively with internal and external partners to create the conditions for successful partnership working;
