I help to make a difference!

Nursing in prison is never dull or predictable. On any given day the skills you use may be similar to those you need working in Health promotion or A&E, alternatively you may be supporting people to manage their mental health or substance misuse. It’s this variety that keeps things fresh and stimulating. Every day will bring new challenges and new experiences. But at the same time, you’ll have all the support you need to deliver the best care possible. At Care UK, our belief in putting the patient first, regardless of the environment or their history, combined with our insistence on quality healthcare has proved to be hugely successful. As a Staff Nurse (RGN), you'll work as part of a team of Primary Care Nurses within HMYOI Feltham's Healthcare Services, a young offenders institute for those aged 15-21. We offer all of the health services any community needs in one place and with a single team. These range from reception health checks and regular GP services, to help with substance misuse, chronic or long-term conditions, podiatry, physiotherapy and optometry.

It’s not just the environment that’s varied here, the role is too. You can expect to be involved in everything from clinical triage to the evaluation and development of patient care and standards. You’ll carry out – and potentially develop – nurse-led clinics, reviewing patient histories, undertaking relevant examinations and tests, organising any necessary treatment and referring patients to other healthcare professionals when you need to. Across everything you do, you’ll provide the kind of helpful, empathetic support that will make every patient feel at ease.

Interested in clinical development?

We could give you the opportunity to develop in to a specialist role of your interest and benefit to the service i.e. ANP, BBV, sexual health and plastering. Other training can include ILS/ALS (intermediate life support and advanced life support), health promotion, phlebotomy, vaccinations, suturing, wound care, RCGP, and long term condition courses.
