London Bridge Hospital has expanded into the top four floors of the new Guy’s Cancer Centre. Consultants from London’s top teaching hospitals will offer full surgical provision in urology, gynaecology, breast, ENT, maxillofacial and head and neck, as well as reconstructive surgery for these specialties. The hospital will partner with Leaders in Oncology (LOC) across chemotherapy, outpatient oncology and haematology.

The London Bridge Hospital campus in South East London encompasses the recently opened outpatients and diagnostic centre in The Shard, the large world-class hospital based at the Tooley Street site, and a further five outpatient and diagnostic centres across the City, Canary Wharf and Kent. Patients benefit from multidisciplinary streamlined care, investment in leading-edge technology and London teaching hospital consultants.

London Bridge Hospital achieved an ‘Outstanding’ accreditation by the healthcare regulators Care Quality Commission in 2017, with them remarking that they saw innovative practice throughout the hospital including new research taking place, and the Consultants and staff were noted as being highly motivated individuals, and all committed to providing high quality patient centred care.

We are currently recruiting for a Staff Nurse working in our Outpatients Department 'HCA @ The Shard'

The outpatient facility at The Shard offers exceptional care across a range of medical specialties — from orthopaedics to women’s health. Our consulting and treatment rooms are equipped with the latest medical technology, meaning we can provide rapid on-site diagnosis and personalised treatment.

Job Description

As the  Staff Nurse in HCA@ The Shard Outpatients Department  you will ensure the delivery of a quality and research-based service to our patients, their families and Consultants. 

Salary: £31,972 -£35,169 (dependent on experience) plus benefits

This is a full time role working 37.5hrs per week (Mon-Fri Flexibility of shifts required)

Duties & Responsibilities

  • To demonstrate excellent clinical practice at all times and to be accountable for own actions
  • Assess, plan and deliver care to meet patient and family needs
  • Undertake extended roles such as IV cannulation, phlebotomy and advanced wound dressings
  • Contribute to research based care and other practice development initiatives 
  • Contribute to the setting of clinical standards, policies and procedures
  • Promote good communication channels amongst staff enhancing good team work
  • Maintain a safe environment for patients and staff
  • Deputise for senior staff in their absence, demonstrating leadership skills
  • Supervise and direct junior staff, promoting a learning environment
  • Respect and ensure patients privacy and confidentiality
  • Ensure all patient charges are captured
  • Provide chaperone service and assist medical staff with clinical procedures
  • Undertake daily checks of equipment and report when faulty 
  • Fully document all aspects of patient care and maintain accurate records 
  • Provide patients and families with information regarding care and management of their condition
  • Maintain stock levels of supplies/equipment
  • Carry out nursing duties as requested by senior staff
  • Administrative duties as required

Skills & Experience

  • Registered Nurse Level 1
  • NMC Registration and meet PREP requirements
  • Experience relevant to specialist area desirable
  • Phlebotomy training
  • Knowledge of relevant hospital policies and procedures
  • Manual Handling training
  • ILS desirable
