This is a nursing environment like no other. It’s fascinating, diverse and endlessly changing. Not to mention moving, motivating and challenging.

We’re looking for qualified nurses from differing clinical backgrounds – it’s no longer a case that you need ICU or A&E experience, though, if you do, great. We’re looking for nurses with experience in high dependency, palliative care, bereavement and transplantation.  You’ll need to be a resilient, sensitive, empathetic team-player. Someone who is forward-thinking and wants to achieve. A professional who can handle lots of negotiation, change and varied cases.

Our specialist nurses play a truly vital role. They take on a wide variety of responsibilities: liaising with the families of potential donors, donor assessment and characterisation, allowing opportunity for organ donation to happen, teaching, clinical audit and awareness-raising, among much else.

There are so many reasons why this is such a worthwhile place to work. Of course, the main one is the impact it has on people. Knowing that a seriously ill patient is given a new chance at life through transplantation is a very powerful experience. But the effect the process has on donors and donors’ families is equally heart-warming. When donation happens, death doesn’t mean that it’s the end of the donor’s story, but rather that they have contributed to the beginning of someone else’s.

Training is internationally recognised. When you start, you’re looking at six months of intensive learning. And it doesn’t stop there as we will also provide support for your long-term development, including mentoring, soft skills training, secondments and possibly even support for academic qualifications right up to Masters degrees.

NHS Blood and Transplant is committed to equal opportunities, we positively encourage applications from all sections of the community regardless of sex, racial origin or disability.

We are holding a number of Selection Days for the Specialist Nurse opportunities currently available across the UK. It is essential that applicants arrange to have an informal conversation with the recruitment manager, either face to face or by telephone. This can be done either before application or during the selection process, but must be completed prior to the Selection Day.

We have positions available in various hospitals. For further details regarding the location our current vacancies, and details regarding the informal visits please see attached Recruitment Benefits.

Selection days are expected to be held weeks commencing 8th and 15th April in Birmingham.

This is your chance to be a true specialist. Visit our website by clicking on the apply button for more information.

Closing date: 20 March 2019.
