Job Description

As a Paediatric Staff Nurse working within of our outpatient department, you will be responsible and accountable for the assessment of required care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of holistic care for children on our general surgical and medical ward. You will be working to promote a progressive attitude to the continual improvement of patient care through research, evidence-based practice and the developmental of additional clinical skills in the speciality.

This is a full time role working 37.5hrs per week – flexible shifts on internal rotation, including days and occasional weekends.

The attractive and competitive salary range for this role is £31,972 - £35,169 (include Shift enhancement) and will be dependent upon skills and experience.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • To assess, plan, deliver and implement a high standard of nursing care to children and their parents/carers.
  • To participate in education programs, including Mandatory Training set out by HCA.
  • Maintaining of standards of care for children’s services in the Outpatient department.
  • Ensure a smooth operational process and support of managing a Paediatric Consultant lead outpatient clinic.
  • To work as part of the multi-disciplinary team, using effective communication and collaborative working 
  • Ensure appropriate and timely referral of children in the event of requiring the services of internal / external agencies, including social services and child protection advisors.
  • Maintaining the Health & Safety standards in the care of children with in OPD, Incl. Infection Control / Risk assessments.
  • Be an advocate for children.
  • Be involved in the implementation of advancements in children’s services.
  • Be involved in the expansion within the facility.
  • Recognition of the deteriorating child, act in accordance with local policy for resuscitation.
  • To maintain accurate records of patient care.
  • To demonstrate good clinical practice at all times and to be accountable for own actions 
  • Assist in completing action plans as set out by the regular Paediatric Service meetings in the Department.

Skills & Experience

  • NMC Child Registered Nurse with basic paediatric life support
  • Organisational skills with the ability to flexibly respond to the needs of the service and the hospital
  • The ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including communication (verbal, nonverbal and written), positive mental attitude and sensitivity
  • Professional manner at all times
  • IT literacy
