Lead Nurse – The Woodhouse

Elysium Healthcare, as the UK leader in specialist psychiatric services, operate throughout England and Wales caring for people with mental illness, learning disabilities and acquired brain injuries. It also provides employee assistance programmers.

It is the objective of Complex Care division to be the independent sector provider of choice in our field. We are committed to responding positively to customer needs and to delivering services of measurable quality.

The business has four types of customer; patients, staff, purchasers and external agencies.

Patients will have a Learning Disability and/or Autism diagnosis but also may suffer from mental illness or personality disorder. Patients at the Unit are detained under the Mental Health Act or under a DOLS application.  Referrals are taken from many sources including the Local Authority, CCGs and Commissioners.

The workforce of the organisation is multidisciplinary; a significant proportion of those are employed within the clinical disciplines, in addition other departments provide support services.

Purpose

Provide operational leadership in the delivery of highest quality Nursing Services

To ensure systems are designed, implemented and monitored to ensure both efficient financial and clinical performance in the nursing department

To advise, support and educate nurses in their areas of service delivery

To set standards for the nursing services, reflecting and positively promoting the business of the hospital.

To maintain high profile leadership in areas of clinical governance as they impact on the nursing department

Development of policies and procedures for the nursing department.

Key Outputs

Strategic Responsibility

Liaison with Regional Lead Nurse re strategic planning of service developments in context of Complex Care division.

Monitoring performance of site Clinical Nurse Manager and Charge Nurses.

Development and delivery of Nursing Service Level agreements against key performance indicators

Development of co-ordinated nursing services that are responsive to the needs of patients, carers and all stakeholders in line with Service Agreements

Nursing Workforce forecasting and planning

Development and delivery of clinical and corporate governance targets within the Nursing Services

Contributing to the Complex Care’s strategic planning and advising the Hospital Director on nursing issues.

Quality And Clinical Governance

Development of internal/external customer service initiatives

Contributing to the Achievement and retention of Investors in People benchmark standards

Achievement and retention of external, professional and educational networks

Development and maintenance of hospital operational reporting statistics for both internal and external analysis of the nursing department

Monitoring the impact of the Quality Improvement Strategy on the hospital’s business plan

Actively contribute to the development and implementation of Elysium Healthcare quality initiatives

Actively support the implementation of Clinical Audit Programmes

Actively support and monitor CPD for all nursing staff

Legislation/Policies and Procedures

Ensure the nursing department complies with the requirements of the National Care Standards Act 2000 at all times

Ensure that nursing services meet the requirements of the Mental Health Act 1983 and to act as a source of advice to other departments

Monitoring nursing services policies and procedures, ensuring adherence with the Health, Safety and Welfare at Work Act 1974

Contribute effectively to the lead nurse forum of diversity in Service Provision
