Nurse Manager – The Woodhouse

Purpose

To provide a high profile, visible clinical leadership to the ward nursing team. To promote and safeguard the well-being and interests of all patients, employees and visitors. To ensure that standards of patient care are maintained at all times within the parameters of operational policies and governing legislation

Context

The business has four types of customer; patients, staff, purchasers and external agencies.

Patients will have a diagnosis of Learning Disability and /or Autism but they also may suffer from mental illness or personality disorder. Patients at the Unit are detained under the Mental Health Act or they are under a DOLs application. Referrals are taken from many sources including the Local Authority, CCG’s and Commissioners.

The workforce of the organisation is multidisciplinary; a significant proportion of those are employed within the clinical disciplines, in addition other departments provide support services.

Advisory

  • Advisory role to nursing staff.

  • Support the implementation of local Clinical Governance Strategy

  • Satisfactory completion of objectives as agreed at appraisal and monthly supervision.
  • Satisfactory fulfilment of core competencies.
  • Demonstrates clear application of continuing professional development portfolio.
  • Clear application of hospital policies and procedures
  • Demonstrates positive contribution to senior nurses group.
  • Facilitates delivery of practice and support supervision.
  • Actively contributes to the Nursing Service Agreement, departmental Risk Matrix and action plan, monitoring their implementation
  • Satisfactory completion of designated annual mandatory training.
  • To participate and take on active lead in organisational clinical and nursing audit programmes.
  • Support of senior management team at local level.
  • Contributes to departmental and unit business objectives.
  • Effectively manage positive change in the nursing department.
  • Satisfactory attendance record
