The School of Health and Social Care

Organised health and social care is one of the greatest achievements of the 20th century, made possible by the vision and dedication of the professionals who staff it. We are at the forefront of preparing people to solve real-life issues in health and society, offering courses and research that both commissioners and employers believe in. The School has an excellent reputation for teaching and research in health and social care. Our academic members of staff (approx. 100) include social workers, nurses, allied health care professionals, psychologists and sociologists.  In April 2017 we were awarded a silver Athena SWAN award which recognises the commitment the School has toward equality and development of an inclusive culture, promoting dignity and respect.

Duties of the role

The School of Health and Social Care is seeking to appoint a full-time Lecturer in Advanced Clinical Practice (ACP).  This will include module leadership for Consultation & Assessment, Non-Medical Prescribing, and development of/ contribution to other specialist CPD courses where appropriate.  The post holder would support students undertaking ACP courses both as stand alone modules and as part of a Post-Graduate ACP pathway (including dissertation supervision). 

We would particularly welcome applications from individuals that are keen to contribute actively to excellence in education by designing and delivering broadly based, substantive and effective teaching, and provide learning support, at undergraduate and postgraduate levels (e.g. curriculum development and review, assessment and feedback, research supervision, etc.) as agreed with the Dean of School/ Head of Group for Nursing & Health Studies.  Applicants should have a strong commitment to team working and to enhancing the contribution of both research and education in Advanced Clinical Practice.

The successful candidate will be expected to deliver excellent education, to contribute to the administration and management of the School, and to the local, regional and international profile of the School.

Additionally for the ASER role, duties will include engaging in individual and/or collaborative research activity (resulting in internationally excellent publications) that is in keeping with REF criteria and generating external research funding appropriate in scale to career stage and subject area norms.

Skills and qualifications required

For the ASE role, the candidate would be expected to have a relevant postgraduate level degree in a relevant field of health care practice or equivalent professional experience or practice and qualification as a Non-Medical Prescriber.

Additionally for the ASER role, you should have a relevant doctoral level research degree in Health Care Practice or equivalent professional experience or practice or be close to completion of PhD, as well as Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy or the ability to gain professional recognition at this or a higher level if appropriate.  You should also be qualificatied as a Non-Medical Prescriber. You will be able to demonstrate evidence of a clear publication plan for submission to future Research Excellence Framework (REF) programmes and evidence of a research agenda, engagement in high-quality research activity and a developing research profile.

All staff are expected to dedicate time within their workload for ‘Scholarship and Professional Practice’.  We would therefore seek to establish an arrangement for the post holder to maintain their clinical practice as an ACP as part of their employment with the University.
