London Bridge Hospital campus in South East London encompasses an outpatients and diagnostic centre in The Shard, the large world-class hospital based at the Tooley Street site, and a further five outpatient and diagnostic centres across the City, Canary Wharf and Kent.

In May 2017 we welcomed the newest addition to our campus into the top four floors of the new Cancer Centre at Guy’s. Consultants from London’s top teaching hospitals will offer full surgical provision in urology, gynaecology and breast, as well as reconstructive surgery for these specialties. The new site encompasses inpatient and day case beds and operating theatres including the first integrated robotics theatre in the UK, housing a Da Vinci Robot. There is also a chemotherapy unit, outpatient consulting, Level 3 Critical Care and Imaging including X-Ray, MRI and Ultrasound.

London Bridge Hospital achieved an ‘Outstanding’ accreditation by the healthcare regulators Care Quality Commission in 2017, with them remarking that they saw innovative practice throughout the hospital including new research taking place, and Consultants and staff were highly praised around their levels of motivation and commitment in the provision of providing high quality patient centred care.

Job Description

As a Senior Sister/ Charge Nurse on the Oncology Ward, your role will include the clinical management of the department, which will include supporting and mentoring junior staff, acting as a clinical expert and role model.

You will assist in the operational management of the ward, which will includes staff deployment, recruitment and retention of staff along with the promotion of team and multidisciplinary working.

As a senior member of the Oncology department, your role will also ensure that the highest quality of practice and care is delivered throughout the ward.

 

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates competent clinical practice at all times, is accountable for own actions and acts as a role model
  • Ensures that they and others can appropriately assess, plan, implement and evaluate the care they provide
  • Provides patients, families and carers with expert, unbiased information regarding the causes, care and management of their condition
  • Ensures that nursing care is delivered and changed in accordance with clinical plans, acts as a supervisor to the clinical team and advocate to the patient
  • Ensures that all staff adhere to appropriate nursing, national and NMC guidelines at all times
  • Provides leadership and support to the multidisciplinary team
  • Promotes team working to maximise effectiveness of service provisio
  • Manage staff resources, and be accountable for workforce planning decisions

 

Skills & Experience

  • Registered Nurse Level 1 – 5 years + Oncology / Haemato-oncology and surgical experience
  • NMC Registration and PREP requirements
  • Relevant Post Registration Qualification
  • Experience of working in a private patient setting is desirable but not essential. 
  • Chemotherapy experience is essential for this role.
