The London Bridge Hospital campus in South East London encompasses the recently opened Private Care at Guys, an outpatients and diagnostic centre in The Shard, the large world-class hospital based at the Tooley Street site, and a further five outpatient and diagnostic centres across the City, Canary Wharf and Kent. Our busy 24-hour Critical Care Unit is equipped with the latest technology and provides the highest level of dedicated, continuous and specialised care to Critical Care Level 2 and 3 patients with a variety of medical or surgical conditions who require complex multi-organ support. The unit has a total of 18 beds, twelve of which are in individual rooms, with one sophisticated, dedicated respiratory isolation room.

Job Description

As the Critical and Acute Care Matron you will be a highly visible leader, delivering the provision of clinical and professional leadership to the ward team, whilst being available to patients and consultants to promote confidence in our services. Maintaining a high profile and standards for clinical practice within the Critical Care Department, you will ensure the team have the skills to deliver the needs of the service in a safe, efficient and effective way. You will promote and enhance world class patient focused care by assessing areas of risk in relation to patient safety and implementing initiatives to improve patient experience.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Act as clinical expert for Critical Care for London Bridge Hospital.
• Ensure effective admission and discharge planning with relevant members of the multidisciplinary team.
• Participate in clinical audit and implement actions based on audit results to enable changes in practice.
• Oversee all HR duties - recruit and select exceptional staff, retain quality staff, staff rosters, performance management, midyear reviews, training and education for staff, department orientation
• Contribute to setting the department’s budget including staffing levels and skill mix
• Maintain department costs are in line with budget and worked hours explaining variances on the workforce planning tool.
• Monitor department revenues using the daily revenue report sheets
• Creatively manage flexible staffing patterns that meet changing patient service level/needs. All duty rosters must be authorised with the Lead Site Practitioner.
• Complete monthly department financial reviews
• Work with Deputy Chief Nurse and Chief Nurse to identify areas for improvement and develop actions plans in response to the monthly nursing audits, and other audits as they arise.
• Identify and participate in the development of nursing policies and procedures
• Promote a culture of continuous quality improvement through the use of patient satisfaction feedback and reflection on practice by self and other members of the ward team.

Skills & Experience

As a registered nurse with extensive experience within a critical care setting, you will also ideally have experience of renal services. You must hold a post grad qualification in ICU, as well as ALS.

Having worked at a senior level, you will also have budgetary and resource management experience.
