Job Details

Inpatient Mental Health Practitioner

We seek motivated and innovative practitioners who wish to contribute to the mental health care of people with secure services and welcome applications from all mental health professionals, including Nurses, Occupational Therapists and Social Workers.

This is a great opportunity to join our inpatient team at one of the country’s most respected providers of secure mental health services. As an inpatient mental health practitioner for the Secure Services Directorate with Devon Partnership NHS Trust, you will hold a key role in supporting people in their recovery pathway, by providing direct care as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

We are based at Langdon Hospital in Dawlish, a 111 acre campus-style site which includes the recently-opened Dewnans Centre, a £27 million state-of-the-art ‘medium secure’ unit, as well as a number of ‘low secure’ and open wards. The service benefits from a truly multidisciplinary leadership team who are committed to creating an environment which supports staff members and service users to reach their potential.

A recent CQC inspection rated us as “Outstanding”. Our Directorate employs over 320 staff and we have ambitious plans in place to expand and develop our existing services, including plans to deliver secure services for women. We support people who, as a consequence of their mental health needs, have had contact with the criminal justice system and require a safe and secure environment that enables them to receive a wide range of treatments, therapies and care to support their recovery. Recovery is at the heart of everything we do - it is about people building a meaningful life and represents a shift away from focusing on illness and symptoms towards a focus on personal health, strengths and wellness.

Successful candidates will be well supported within the teams and encouraged to develop their clinical competencies within a stimulating learning environment. For newly qualified staff we have a well-established preceptorship programme which links into our wider multidisciplinary CPD programme. Those looking to gain further experience will be supported in maintaining professional links, through involvement in regular profession specific CPD opportunities.

We also offer:

  • Free parking

  • Induction and access to our onsite gym

  • Reduced cost meals through onsite café

  • Staff wellbeing initiatives such as mindfulness training, physical health MOT
