Would you like to transform the sight of thousands by influencing fellow professionals to increase ocular donation, then read on…….

Imagine working with colleagues across a number of Trusts to build focused networks to increase ocular donation, leading to over 10 people experiencing life changing ocular operations every day.

You would be joining NHSBT at a very exciting time, as the opt-out (deemed consent) legislation for Tissue and Organ donation moves through parliament.  As one of the Eye Donation Specialist Nurses within the South Central Region, you will be combining both your clinical and people influencing skills to implement and manage a new tissue donation referral model at this crucial time.  Working for the Lead Nurse of Tissue and Eye Services and with local Specialist Organ Donation Nurses, you will have a level of autonomy to mould and grow this new model across the region.

In this multi-layered role, you will act as the pivotal interface between a broad spectrum of professionals, such as Ward Nurses, Directors of Nursing and Donation Committees within the Trusts, and the NHSBT National Referral Centre. Your key remit will be to create networks of nurses and raise their awareness of the eye and tissue donation selection criteria across your hospitals and share your expertise and training with these colleagues.  The measure of success for this role will be increasing the number of ocular referrals to the National Referral Centre from the hospitals within the region.

As an ambassador for donation, this role would be well-suited to someone who has an engaging personality and the passion to influence colleagues to support ocular donation.  You will therefore be an NMC registered Nurse, with either an MSc in a related healthcare field or equivalent experience. You will have a proven track-record in either a clinical teaching/training role and experience embedding new systems or processes in a hospitals environment. With the gravitas to engage and influence key professionals across your region.  You will have exceptional communication skills, and the capacity to make effective decisions in a constantly-changing environment. Above all else, you will be passionate about the benefits of ocular donations and inspiring others to support this cause to improve the lives of people with life changing sight conditions.
