INTRODUCTION

The symposium organising committee, in partnership with the International Society of Abnormally Invasive Placenta (AIP), are very pleased to invite you to attend this unique multidisciplinary course designed to improve your understanding and ability to manage complex disease. We are very proud to announce our distinguished faculty of international clinical experts in AIP at this prestigious venue.

AIP is increasing, both in diagnosis and prevalence. Its worrying association with high maternal and fetal mortality and morbidity was highlighted in the latest MBRRACE reports. To address this problem, The Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists published a new green top guideline in 2018 for the management of this condition. Additionally, FIGO (2018) published a consensus meeting document and consideration of AIP classification for the same purpose. In order to improve patients’ outcome, NHS England is strongly in favour of centralising AIP services in specialised centres. These centres of excellence are expected to reduce maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality and provide better service.

The conference offers carefully planned sessions to cover all aspects of AIP including: screening, prevention, diagnosis and management of AIP. Using presentations, lectures, expert panel discussions and audience participation, delegates are given the unique opportunity to master their knowledge. In addition, it is a great chance to network and improve the communication among different centres, both on a national and international level.

Lastly, we aim to launch the first international patient support group, patient information leaflet and AIP specific consent form.
