Salary: £46,762 - £56,526 p.a.

Campus: Charing Cross

Advert text:

We are looking for a Community Collaboration Lead to provide a bridge link between the Primary Care curriculum and our local community. You will work to consolidate and identify new opportunities with community organisations for student placements, explore ways students can contribute to these community settings, work with course leads to include local perspectives within course content and assessment and expand our schools outreach work.

Imperial College Faculty of Medicine is currently undertaking a full review of its undergraduate MBBS/BSc programme curriculum, in response to a number of changes in the health and education sectors. The Undergraduate Primary Care Education team is a large, busy award-winning educational team at the forefront of some of these changes. Overseeing over 10 different courses in the undergraduate medical degree, the team also houses a Faculty Development Team that supports the quality and quantity of community placements, and a newly established Medical Education Innovation and Research Centre (MEdIC), that is committed to exploring global advances in medical education innovation and research that have a sustainable, equitable and transformational impact on society.

The vision of the team is to provide medical students with educational experiences that positively impact society, creating future doctors who have an understanding of the biomedical and sociocultural aspects of medicine. Medical students, therefore, are seen not only as the future diverse medical workforce, but also as current active participants and socially accountable change agents within healthcare settings, and their participation also serves as a powerful stimulus for their learning.

Duties and Responsibilities

You will work closely with all our Primary Care and Public Health course leads, looking in detail at existing departmental courses from Year 1 through to the final Year 6 to consolidate, identify and implement new opportunities to collaborate with community organisations and include local perspectives within course content and assessment. You will explore opportunities to showcase and disseminate our learning and work at appropriate workshops, conferences and publications.

The team is also involved in a number of school outreach projects and you will work with the relevant leads to build and expand these projects, linking with widening participation initiatives across College and externally.

You will be expected to participate generally in the Department’s activities as agreed and may take on other duties in agreement with the Director of Undergraduate Primary Care Education.

Essential requirements

You will need an undergraduate degree or other qualification in a health care related discipline, public health, primary care or medical education as well as significant experience of working in a community health care career or third sector setting.

Experience in the field of community collaboration and/or widening participation and of project management are also required.
