Experienced Staff Nurse
We have an opportunity to join our Respiratory Team on Leopard and Kangaroo Wards at Great Ormond Street Hospital.
We are seeking Experienced Staff Nurses (Band 5) who are keen to explore and develop their careers in children’s respiratory to join our existing team.

Leopard Ward (Badger) Acute Respiratory Unit
Kangaroo Ward (Miffy) Complex Care Respiratory Unit
Full time/Flexi hours
Leopard Ward is 14 beds 6 being HDU. Leopard cares for children with a variety of acute and chronic respiratory conditions, including a variety of congenital anomalies, complex asthma, cystic fibrosis and empyemas/effusions requiring chest drains. Children requiring long-term ventilation via a tracheostomy and those requiring non-invasive ventilation are also nursed on Leopard Ward.
Kangaroo Ward is a 9 bedded ward caring for patients with long term ventilation and complex care needs transitioning from hospital to home. There is also a dedicated sleep study bed. Our aim is to help patients achieve their full potential medically, developmentally and emotionally. The nursing team on Kangaroo Ward play a significant role in training families and community carers/nurses to prepare patients for discharge.
Our patients span in age from new born to adolescent. They require a varied input of nursing care from both low to high dependency, and have both surgical and medical requirements.
Candidates need to be driven and motivated to ensure our patients and their families receive the highest possible levels of care. We welcome candidates from a variety of backgrounds including Intensive Care and general paediatrics. We support adult registered nurses joining our team and if you have the right skills and experience, we can support you with the paediatric element of your role. You will join a hardworking and supportive multidisciplinary team, making it an enjoyable and rewarding environment to work in.
As a Unit we are committed to your professional development and offer educational opportunities which can be individually structured to include study to degree or Masters Level. We have a team of Nurse Practice Educators who support staff professional development.
