Emergency and Acute Inpatient Nursing opportunities in Medicine

‘Pick your own rotational posts’

‘Progress from staff nurse to specialist level on our innovative nursing career pathway’

At United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust (ULHT), we’re proud of how far we’ve come, but recognise there’s still lots more to do – that’s where you come in!

We’ve made huge improvements but there’s never been a better time to either start your career or make your next move with us.

New investment and improved facilities - including our innovative medical and surgical units, and ground-breaking emergency integrated assessment centre - means you’ll get the right resources to deliver the excellence in rural healthcare we aspire to.

We’ve worked hard to create an environment where you’re always trusted and supported to do your job and encouraged to grow, surrounded by a team that has your wellbeing at heart. If you’re an experienced healthcare professional or just starting out, ULHT is an ideal place for you to do great work.

First and foremost, you’ll live and breathe our values of patient-centred, respect, excellence, safety and compassion – these are key to everything we do.

We work across several sites unique to Lincolnshire, encompassing our ‘world class’ heart centre, acute stroke service and innovative older people’s wards.

You’ll be joining a friendly and supportive team with a focus on emergency and acute inpatient care services in cardiology, respiratory and gastroenterology medicine.

Our acute stroke service is one of only a few in the UK supported by Acute Care Practitioners (ACPs) who in-reach to our emergency departments. In addition, our innovative care of the elderly environments offer spacious dementia friendly units, supported by an acute frailty service allowing opportunities to shape practice and develop expertise in older people’s care.

On top of this, we provide care in our acute admissions units, which means you can make the choice as to which setting you want to work in. This makes for huge opportunities to take on new skills such as non-invasive ventilation or high dependency care, learning from highly skilled nurses at every stage of treatment, from assessment right through to admission or discharge.

As you journey through our innovative nursing career pathways there are opportunities to progress from staff nurse right through to clinical specialist or even consultant level. We have unrivalled opportunities to move into advanced practice roles across many specialties including acute and emergency medicine, stroke medicine, frailty and cardiology.

We also offer a unique option to ‘pick your own’ rotational post, choosing from a huge range of placements within almost any of our specialties; allowing you to shape your career in any way you choose. If you change your mind this is not a problem as you can step on or off the rotational program whenever you like.

You’ll need strong interpersonal skills with patients and colleagues alike and excellent timekeeping and workload management are vital. You’ll also be a positive role model to other staff, providing support when needed.

As you deliver our high standard of care to our patients, you’ll be their biggest advocate at all times, liaising with other healthcare providers or third parties as required. You’ll also have the opportunity to participate in clinical supervision on a regular basis, and to occasionally deputise for more senior staff.

You’ll need to show us sound knowledge of a wide variety of clinical skills, and should have NMC registration or a recognised equivalent. A bachelor’s or master’s degree along with an assessor and mentor qualification (308CPD) and the HDU course would also be ideal, though you may have equivalents or be working towards these.

Simply put, working for us means working for ‘one Trust, with every opportunity’. We’re absolutely committed to your career development, offering pioneering schemes that give you the right mix of skills and learning to take your career in any direction.

Our innovative Talent Academy was the first of its kind and has now been adopted nationally, offering a wide variety of programmes for all professions and career stages, including our ACP course and managerial roles. We’ll also encourage you to attend additional training opportunities within two years of joining us to further support your development. On top of this, you’ll be entitled to the full range of NHS benefits, including flexible working, generous annual leave, an NHS pension, and staff accommodation.

Come and join us ASAP and help us put the ‘you’ into ULHT.
