Both Christie Private Care and The Christie NHS trust have been inspected by CQC in 2018 and both parties achieved a rating of outstanding

The haematology unit enables nurses to deliver high standards of holistic care to their patients and deal with patients who have a variety of haematological malignancies. This includes the delivery of systemic anti-cancer treatments for acute leukaemia, high grade lymphomas and multiple myeloma and managing side effects of these treatments.

Our unit is JACIE accredited jointly with the Christie Trust haematology transplant programme and we are excited that we have the opportunity to deliver innovative CAR T cell treatments in the near future. Due to the fact that the haematology unit is a specialised unit we have a clinical practice facilitator who ensures that staff are trained clinically in order to deliver care safely and with competence.

Patient care is consultant led but we have a team of Resident Medical Officers based on the unit 24/7 and we are also supported by a critical care outreach team who support deteriorating patients.

Job Description

As Staff Nurse you will be responsible for working in a supporting experienced nursing team to assess, plan, deliver and evaluate high standards of specialist care to ensure that patients are cared for in a safe, caring and comfortable environment. This will include meeting their medical, physical and emotional needs by effectively communicating with the patient and their families.

This is a full time role working 37.5hrs per week working on rotation long days, nights and weekends – shift pattern are 7.30am – 8pm and 8pm – 7.30am. Rotational posts through general oncology and chemotherapy day case unit can also be considered for interested candidates

The attractive and competitive salary for this role is between £26,891 - £29,879 (plus 9% shift enhancements) and will be dependent upon skills and experience.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Participate in individual care needs of patients and develop appropriate care plans to implement and evaluate
  • Monitor patient care and interventions appropriately
  • Recognise deterioration in patients’ condition at an early stage, (including neutropenic patients) Refer to the senior nurse and medical team appropriately
  • Initiate appropriate actions to isolate patients when required
  • Liaise with multi-disciplinary team (MDT)
  • Maintain ward area in stocked items, equipment and waste to maintain a clean and safe environment

Skills & Experience

  • NMC Registered nurse, with post qualification
  • NHS or Private experience
  • Pro-active team player wishing to pursue and develop a career in Oncology/Chemotherapy and Haematology
  • Haematology experience is desirable. We offer a three month supportive probationary period which includes some supernumerary time
