We are currently recruiting for a Breast Care Clinical Nurse Specialist

The London Breast Institute at The Princess Grace Hospital sets new standards of delivery for breast care in the independent sector. This involves demonstrable and audited excellence of the three essential components required - medical staffing, diagnostic and therapeutic equipment, and research activity.
Since being the first breast unit in the UK to install and use Full Digital Mammography, The Princess Grace Hospital has maintained its leading position in the equipment field and is regularly visited by other UK centres. Several members of the Institute staff have major National and International profiles and collaborative research programmes
Platinum levels of required standards have been set for eligibility of staff to work in the unit as well as volume levels of unit throughout to maintain skill and expertise

Job Description

We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed professional who is already an experienced nurse working with breast cancer patients (either within surgery or oncology). As a clinical nurse specialist you will also act as resource to other healthcare professionals on breast cancer treatments and supportive care issues, facilitating high quality specialist nursing care to all patients with breast cancer and their families and friends, from diagnosis, during treatment and after treatment, helping them to move forward. The Breast CNS also acts as a liaison to those who develop a recurrence or metastatic disease, supporting the metastatic breast CNS.

This is a full time position: 37.5 hours per week

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Care, support, provision of information, signposting and referral to other agencies for patients with breast cancer from diagnosis, through adjuvant and metastatic treatments.
  • Liaising with the breast multidisciplinary team to ensure a seamless service.
  • Facilitate nurse led clinics for Holistic Needs Assessments (HNAs), patient f/u for discussion of treatments (e.g. breast reconstruction),
  • Development of further nurse led services in keeping with the current breast redesign project.
  • Delivering evidence based individualised care, through holistic needs assessment, planning and evaluation of care.
  • Acts as a Keyworker for a clinical caseload of breast patients and incorporates the responsibilities of the key worker role, working to coordinate care and provide easy access for on-going support for patients, in all clinical areas within the Trust and at home by telephone.
  • Uses advanced communication skills in all aspects of patient assessment, care and support
  • Attends MDT meetings and ensure all newly diagnosed patients are discussed.
  • Acts as patient advocate where necessary.
  • Provides clinical expertise, specialist advice and support across service boundaries including the medical, allied health professional and other members of the multidisciplinary teams involved in caring for patients with breast cancer.
  • Leads the nursing contribution to service development, ensuring the pursuit of excellence in care.
  • Influences and participates in development of policy and clinical guidelines internally and externally.
  • To liaise with Hospital Palliative Care, Community Palliative Care Nurses and local Hospices, GPs and other community health professionals.

Skills & Experience

Essential Qualifications: 

  • Registered Nurse
  • Post-basic qualification in cancer/palliative care, breast cancer or relevant subject (ENB 998, 237, diploma breast care nursing)
  • Evidence of continued professional development
  • Level 2 psychological skills training as per recognised course or working towards
  • Advanced Communications Skills Training or working towards
  • Recognised teaching qualification or working towards it

Essential experience: 

  • Minimum 3 years relevant post registration experience, at Band 6 or above, in cancer, breast care or palliative care
  • Experience of teaching
  • Highly developed specialist knowledge and experience
  • Able to conduct reflective practice and participates in clinical supervision facilitated by a level 3 / 4 practitioner
  • Experience of multi-professional working skills
  • Ability to lead and influence change
