Job Details

We have a full time vacancy for a Registered Nurse / Operating Department Practitioner to join the Recovery Team.

Our service accommodates a high turnover of immediate postoperative elective and emergency surgery patients from a wide range of adult surgical specialities. We also provide a recovery service at the Royal Cornhill Hospital for two morning sessions per week.

Service demand is variable with a higher throughput of patients transferred to Recovery during core hours. At weekends and overnight only emergency surgery is accommodated within the suite.

In addition to developing new skills in immediate postanesthesia care, the post holder would be encouraged and supported to develop circulating skills within an operating theatre.  The requirement to work in a theatre is more likely to arise out with core hours.

Our established duty pattern is predominantly day shifts including a 1 in 4 weekend coverage commitment, there is also a night shift rotation where self rostering is encouraged.

Candidates must have good communication skills, be able to demonstrate their ability to plan and prioritise their workload, work flexibly to meet service demands and maintain a personal commitment to deliver high standards of patient centred care.

You should be a team player who has recent experience in the provision of postoperative or critical care; ideally you will have completed the Post Anaesthesia Care Competencies, or be keen to work towards achievement of these competencies whilst in post. We will provide orientation to our Department, mentorship to support the achievement of your competencies and welcome you to a dynamic clinical environment where no two days are the same

Applications are welcome from Registered Operating Department Practitioners.

An attractive relocation allowance of up to £8,000 is available to successful candidates.

Informal enquiries are welcome and should be made to Liz Irvine, SCN, on 01224 550097, or to any of the Team Leaders, on 01244 554379.
