We are looking for Mental Health Nurses to join our Older Adult Mental Health Service

Applicants should have excellent communication and inter-personal skills along with a flexible, responsive approach and a genuine interest to undertake this role within this rewarding area of mental health care.

The service has low attrition rates and aims to work together with patients, their families, colleagues and the wider community for outstanding care, enabling older people to live well and thrive.

We are offering permanent roles that can be placed in one of the three core elements of our service:

  1. Older Adult Mental Health Hospital at Home Team

The Hospital at Home Team will provide an alternative to hospital admission, facilitate timely discharge and enable patients to stay at home whilst maintaining dignity, choice and care whilst mitigating risks in the community. This exciting new pilot service is due to commence in autumn 2020. We are looking to recruit both qualified and un-qualified staff to this service and we are looking for healthcare Assistants to support both nursing and Occupational therapy based therapeutic activities.

Hours: 8.00am – 8.30pm
7 days per week, with option of 2 shift system (long & short shift patterns)

  1. Community Mental Health Teams

We have a range of teams providing assessment, care coordination and treatment of older people who require secondary mental health services due to complex mental health needs in the context of physical frailty or a significant mental health or psychological issue related to aging.

The service accepts referrals for individuals over 65 and is a countywide service. Successful candidate(s) will work as part of a multidisciplinary team, carrying out assessment and treatment, with supervision and support depending on grade.

The team is committed to providing evidence based interventions including family work, solution focused approaches and skills based/ structured clinical management and training and supervision is provided to develop in these areas.

Hours: 9.00am – 5.00pm
5 days per week, with flexible working patterns to enhance work/life balance

  1. Inpatient Service

The service consists of two inpatient wards based at New Haven in Bromsgrove:

  • Woodland Ward provides assessment for older adults over 65 years old with functional mental health conditions.
  • Meadow Ward provides specialist assessment and treatment for people living with dementia.

Woodland & Meadow Ward work long day shifts (Days: 07:30 – 20:00 and Nights: 19:30 – 08:00) and are worked on a rotational basis that incorporates shorter shifts too.

We adopt an ethos of coproduction with patients and carers and work creatively with agencies outside our service. We actively encourage innovation and seek to empower our staff in contributing to the continual improvement of patient and carer experience. We foster and encourage personal development opportunities including rotation within the service to increase skills and experience.

Our staff describe the service as caring, flexible, and supportive with a shared sense of responsibility for patient care.
