Oncology Department



The service treats all forms of cancer, both solid and haematological tumours and stem cell transplants. Treatments can be in the form of radiotherapy and chemotherapy. The service also offers palliative care and a breast care service







What you'll be doing



As a Senior Staff Nurse you will lead a nursing team in delivering optimum patient care and deputise for the sister/charge nurse as required providing clinical support to the nursing team



You will be a caring and compassionate nurse, working as part of the multi-disciplinary team delivering a high standard of care to our patients. You will be responsible for the assessment of patient care needs and for the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes







What's a typical day?



  • Undertake clinical duties in any area that is reasonably requested



  • Supporting the working environment and maintenance of staff morale through mutual regard and respect recognising and valuing contributions from individuals within the ward team.



  • Assist the Sister/Charge Nurse with operational requirements in the delivery of a consistent, safe service in all aspects of the patient journey whilst instilling a culture of customer service throughout the nursing team.



  • Managing a team of nurses by organising the patient allocation



  • Provide consistent, clear, clinical and professional leadership and act as a mentor for all staff demonstrating professional awareness and accountability.



  • Participate in the direct nursing care of patients as a clinical leader and expert.



  • Support flexibility with off-duty in order to maintain a well-resourced clinical area.



  • Assist the Sister / Charge Nurse in monitoring and maintaining stock levels.











Who we're looking for?



To be considered for this post you must have: An Adult NMC registration, a senior staff nursing experience in Oncology and competencies of venipuncture, wound care management and chemotherapy. You will have effective communication skills and traits of a proactive and energetic leader
