Monday - Friday (possibility of weekend work, if required)
8am - 4pm
Full-time hours, 37.5 hours a week

A bit about us
Bupa Cromwell Hospital's Paediatric Centre was formed in 2000 to provide a caring environment for children and their families. It offers advanced clinical facilities for complex medical and surgical procedures. Our centre comprises of three dedicated Paediatric areas; an Outpatient Department, a Paediatric Theatre and Inpatients Ward. We have over 70 paediatric specialists drawn from all London's top teaching hospitals which provides us with an unparalleled range of expertise. These include allergy, dietetics, ENT, neurosurgery, plastic and reconstructive surgery. We also have Paediatric Clinical Fellows who focus on facilitating and coordinating the care systems for acutely and chronically ill patients.

Paediatric Play Specialist role:
As a Play Specialist, you will provide developmental, therapeutic and specialised play techniques for children of young ages and diversities to fulfil emotional, social and developmental needs. Stimulating play programmes, highlighting the importance of playing assisting recovery and aiding development. Helping patients cope with anxieties, fears and distractions to ensure that the team can undertake clinical duties and interventions with minimal distress.

While working independently, you will also be a fully integrated part of the Paediatrics Multi-Disciplinary Team. Contributing to the holistic approach in ensuring that a positive atmosphere and environment is embedded so children and their families have a general positive hospital experience throughout their patient journey.

To be successful, you will have:

  • One of the following qualifications: HPSET Registration, Foundation Degree in Healthcare Play Specialism, Edexcel BTEC Professional Diploma in Specialised Play for Sick Children & Young People, Edexcel Certificate in Hospital Play Specialism OR HPSC/HPSEB
  • Post qualification experience as a Play Specialist within a hospital paediatric ward setting
  • Experience of developing a play service in a paediatric ward setting
  • Understanding of safeguarding best practice, awareness of relevant child protection legislation and professional issues relating to childcare and the Children's Act (2004)
  • Capability to empower other health care professionals in providing specialised play materials and interaction
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ideally a member of NAHPS
