About the Facility:

Internationally renowned for clinical excellence, the complex medical care and surgery we provide is supported by our paediatric intensive care unit.

 The Portland Hospital for Women and Children specialises in maternity and women's health care, and a wide range of general and specialist care to children, including urgent care, supported by the 9 bed PICU.

The PICU is equipped with the latest technology to provide advanced respiratory and organ support, all of which is medically supported by our team of Consultant Paediatric Intensivists 24/7. 

Our nursing model is based on the Paediatric Intensive Care Society (2015) Standards for the Care of Critically Ill Children (5th ed.), with typically 1:1 nurse:patient ratio, which reflects the acuity of the children who are admitted to our unit.

Job Summary:

The Clinical Nurse Manager plays a key role in the operational and clinical leadership within the paediatric critical care setting, to support the multidisciplinary teams in providing high quality care. You will be responsible for managing patient activity and nurse staffing to deliver excellent care at target staffing levels while maintaining a high profile and being available to patients and their parents/carers thereby promoting confidence in our services.

Salary: Competitive

Full time 37.5 hours

Skills and Experience

  • NMC Registered with a valid RN8/RNC qualification and post graduate qualification in PICU nursing.
  • Experience of confidently managing a Paediatric Critical Care Unit with multi speciality pathways
  • Relevant critical care course
  • Evidence of ongoing dynamic continuing professional development within the speciality linked to demonstrable clinical competencies, at a minimum educated to degree level or equivalent
  • Higher degree eg MSc Nursing degree
  • Assessing and mentoring qualification. ENB 998 or equivalent essential
  • Leadership or management training- desireable
  • APLS provider.
  • Significant level of experience at sister/charge nurse level of running a large, busy PICU unit, ideally in the private sector
  • Proven ability to analyse complex problems and implement practical solutions
  • Demonstrate a strong sense of personal and team accountability
  • Ability to collaborate constructively to create successful partnership working
  • Experience of change management
