Set back within 15 acres of landscaped gardens, the tranquil environment of the Priory Hospital Southampton offers therapeutic and recovery focused residential treatment as well as day care and outpatient services. The hospital also provides a specialist inpatient service for children and adolescents.

We have a highly experienced team of mental health professionals and support staff, which include consultant psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses and therapists.

Providing quality, inspiring innovation and  delivering value is what we set out to achieve at Priory Healthcare. Enabling our patients with mental health difficulties to receive a truly integrated and holistic approach to their treatment, regardless of complexity or severity, thanks to the knowledge and expertise of our multidisciplinary clinical teams.

About us

Priory Hospital Southampton is a smoke-free hospital that provides 40 beds across 3 wards. The services provided at the hospital include a young peoples ward (CAMHs) and treatment of most psychiatric conditions and Eating Disorders.

We have a highly experienced team of mental health professionals and support staff, which include consultant psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses and therapists

From education to hospitals, care homes and secure facilities, the Priory Group of Companies offers individually tailored, multidisciplinary treatment programmes for those with complex educational needs or requiring acute, long-term and respite mental healthcare.

The integrated strength of each service provides a seamless transition for the individual as they progress between higher and lower dependency care and across services. This unique approach ensures that every individual has the opportunity to achieve the best possible outcomes and quality of life with the Priory Group.

As 85% of our services are publicly funded and delivered in partnership with commissioners, our teams work with commissioning bodies across the country to provide transparent pricing models and evidence-based care programmes.

At Priory Healthcare we’re at the forefront of our field, with an international reputation for delivering clinical excellence. Across the UK’s largest network of mental health hospitals and clinics we are dedicated to making a real and lasting difference to patients with extraordinarily complex disorders.

The severity of cases means we are looking for Registered Mental Health Nurses who can thrive in an often-demanding environment. It will be challenging, and at times it can feel frustrating and dispiriting. But when your patients turn the corner, when you see that sign of progress, that’s when you know all the effort was worth it. That’s when you know you have the most extraordinary job.

About the role:

As well as providing outstanding treatment and care, we aim to deliver a service that’s empowering for our patients. One in which we can support them in maximising the quality of their life in the least restrictive manner possible. So when you join our multi-disciplinary team, you’ll work together to develop personalised, recovery-focused programmes and care pathways. Playing a vital leadership role on the ward, you’ll also use your expertise and ideas to help us continually evolve best practice and set new standards both within the Priory Group and across the profession.

What we’d like from you:

While you’ll be RMN qualified and NMC registered, we’ll be looking for a range of qualities that go beyond your qualifications and technical ability. Whether you are currently working elsewhere or returning to practice, you’ll be patient centric with a commitment to delivering high quality care. Finely tuned decision-making skills, communication skills and organisational capacity are a must, while your flexibility and can-do attitude will enable our patients to build on their existing strengths and feel positive about their lives.

The friendly team at Priory Hospital Southampton has received an OUTSTANDING CQC rating in the Caring inspection area and is rated GOOD overall. The report  stated that the "staff treated patients with compassion and kindness, respected the privacy and dignity and understood the individual needs of patients”, it also noted that across the hospital, “the service was well-led and the governance processes ensured that ward procedures ran smoothly.” Comment from our new Ward Manager -

“As a new member of staff I was pleasantly surprised at the number of training opportunities there are for personal and professional development.  We have a fantastic team with a proactive culture around learning lessons from incidents through reflecting and all working together!  The young people we work with are amazing and having time to sit and actively work with them on things that are helpful to them (groups; one to one; working with families) makes a good job a rewarding one!”

The successful candidate will be required to apply for a disclosure at the enhanced level from the Disclosure and Barring Services. Further information can be obtained from www.dbs.gov.uk. Priory Group will cover the cost of a DBS check for all successful applicants. We are an equal opportunities employer. At Priory Healthcare, we’re passionately committed to making a real and lasting difference for everyone we support. But that’s just the start. As a recognised leader in the healthcare sector, we’re equally passionate about harnessing the potential of everyone on our team – including our rapidly growing community of RMN’s.

So join us and we can promise you one of the most dynamic and supportive career environments in the sector.

But look beyond our size and you will also discover an unrivalled reputation for providing quality, inspiring innovation and delivery value for our service users.

What does this mean for you? More than you might imagine.

For a start, there’s greater clinical diversity here than anywhere outside of the NHS. This offers you the chance to develop your career at the forefront of nursing practice in one or  more of our six specialist areas – Acute Mental Healthcare, Secure, Rehabilitation and Complex Care, Eating Disorders and Child and Adolescent Mental Health.

You will enjoy excellent learning and development resources, too. In addition to benefiting from our award-winning e-learning programme, your structured career progression could include supported study for specialist diplomas, preceptorships if you are newly qualified, a range of other externally accredited courses, the option of becoming a trainer on your own site, and much more besides.

Our working environment and culture are also exceptional. You will be part of a multidisciplinary team of doctors, psychiatrists, therapists and other health care specialists. We don’t just work together. We listen to each other, share ideas, explore new ways of doing things and actively pursue innovation and excellence is all that we do. So while the work can be incredibly demanding, you will never lack the support, collaboration and encouragement you need to perform to your best and achieve your true potential.

As for recognition and rewards, they are everything you would expect from an organisation that values your expertise and commitment. And your career prospects? Well, the sheer scope and scale of our behavioural care services – and the pace of our development as a business – means that you can grow as far and fast as we do.
