Paediatric Staff Nurse or ODP – Medical, Theatres, Oncology, Cardiac - Band 5

Paediatric Staff Nurse or ODP –Medical, Theatres, Oncology, Cardiac.

We currently have a mixture of permanent and winter fixed term vacancies in the following areas:   

Caterpillar Ward (Medical)

This is our paediatric medical ward. Here we predominantly care for children aged 0- 12 years old with a wide variety of medical conditions. Covering 32 beds, 6 of these are placed within our recently converted state of the art high dependency unit. We are accepting applications from Staff Nurses who have completed the HDU course or have HDU experience.

Dolphin Ward (Cardiac)

Dolphin is our specialist cardiac ward. We have 16 beds, 5 of which are based within our specialist high dependency unit. We care for patients from the age of 0 up to 18 years old. We are a specialist children’s cardiac centre, providing care across the south west of England and Wales.

Theatres.  We have 9 theatres over 2 specifically paediatric theatre departments.  The specialities we cover are neurosurgery, scoliosis, cardiac, cardiac catheter, interventional radiology, oncology, general, urology, ear, nose and throat, renal, plastics, burns, dental, maxillofacial, laparoscopic and endoscopy.  We currently have scrub vacancies and are accepting applications from experienced scrub practitioners and newly qualified ODPs

Starlight (Oncology)

Starlight is the paediatric oncology, haematology and bone marrow transplant ward. We are the principal treatment centre in the south west for haematology and oncology and an international referral centre for bone marrow transplant. We have 17 cubicles, predominately for 0-12-year olds.  We are accepting applications from Staff Nurses that are competent administering chemotherapy

Outpatients

Within BRHC we have a total of 21 clinic rooms in 2 outpatient areas and cover a wide range of medical and surgical specialties.  In addition, there are specialist Children’s outpatients’ services at St Michaels’ Hospital, South Bristol Community Hospital and the Spire hospital and nursing staff rotate to all these areas.  There are also lots of opportunities to learn extended roles.  

Our outpatient departments see over 250 children each day in a variety of areas across the city and children come from the whole of the South West and South Wales to visit the Outpatient departments.  Fixed Term positions for one year available

Children’s Emergency Department and Observatory (Observation ward).  Our emergency department and observation ward has recently been refurbished with a brand-new resuscitation area with five spaces and 12 cubicles within our major’s area. We also have 4 fast flow within this for our minor injuries. As the paediatric major trauma centre for the south west of England we regularly receive patients by air ambulance. We treat approximately 40,000 children per year.  Experience working in triage and resuscitation desirable.  Fixed Term Opportunities to April 2021 available.

Bluebell and Sunflower Wards (Neurosciences) is our neurosciences unit which provides a tertiary service.  Care is provided by an integrated team of specialist Paediatric Neurologists, Paediatric Neurosurgeons, Paediatric Neuro-rehabilitation and Allied Health Professionals.  Our ward consists of 12 beds  and a separate Neuro rehabilitation unit with 8 beds. We treat neurosurgical, spinal surgery, specialist epilepsy surgery service, neurology and neuro oncology patients aged 0-16.  We are accepting applications from Staff Nurses with at least 12 months experience. Fixed Term Opportunities to April 2021 available.
