Founded in 1935, Millfield’s vision is to be the world leader for the development of children. There are nearly 1300 students at the senior school (year 9 to U6) and further 450 students in the neighbouring Prep School. Although essentially a rural British school, 20 per cent of Millfield students are international and come from more than 70 countries. Millfield’s size brings great opportunity and the facilities are unmatched in the UK: an Olympic-sized swimming pool, golf courses, indoor centres for tennis, golf and cricket and an equestrian centre; concert hall, recording studio, theatre, art gallery, hi-tech Science block and outstanding teaching facilities; and high-quality boarding accommodation.

Each school has its own onsite medical facilities which are manned by a small team of RGNs. The Senior School medical centre is covered 24 hours a day and is able to offer a range of services including a minor injuries clinic and vaccinations. The Prep medical centre is open daytime only Monday to Saturday and operates on a smaller scale. There are currently vacancies in both centres.

Millfield Prep School is seeking a Lead Nurse/ Sister in Charge to join the school on a full-time basis during term time, plus an additional 4 weeks during the school holidays. Hours are worked out as an average of 35 per week but are allocated on a rota basis over the days of Monday – Saturday and include early/ late shifts.

In this role you will be responsible for managing a small team of experienced professionals, together your key responsibilities include the in-patient care of pupils admitted to the Sick Bay, arranging health appointments for boarding pupils, organising doctor’s surgeries and performing first aid/ emergency care when needed.

School Nurse

Due to the expansion of medical services at Millfield, a rare opportunity has arisen for additional RGNs to join our team of experienced medical professionals.

Hours of work are on a shift basis and will include 2x weekday duties and alternate Saturdays during term time only. Typical shift times are 13:00/ 14:00 – 19:00/20:00 for weekday shifts and 08:00 – 19:00 on Saturdays. Hours can be flexible and opportunity for additional hours is available. Likewise, if you are seeking fewer hours then we would still like to hear from you.

Previous experience working with teenage children, in the MIU or A&E or in a practice nurse setting is desirable although not essential.
